Storytime Features Father's Day Theme

Kids make dads a "blue ribbon" certificate at Eureka Hills Branch Library on Thursday. What better Father's Day gift than that can there be?

This week's storytime at featured a Father's Day theme,  and attending youngsters made a gift for their dads. Librarian Chris Woods started off the storytime session with several stories about fathers. The children were rapt as she read Papa, Please Get Me the Moon and Toolbox Twin.

Woods led an interactive discussion, and displayed some of the tools that dads use around the house.

One dad in attendance, Greg Hrdlicka of Eureka, was asked to shield his eyes while his three youngsters busily created their "honorary Dad's certificate" gift, complete with a blue ribbon, sticker embellishments and lots of furious scribbling.

Nolan Hrdlicka, 3, dashed up to his dad and proudly showed his certificate. "Good job, Nolan," said Hrdlicka.

"I see that you colored the baseball red," he said, pointing to a red mark that the boy had placed roughly in the same proximity as the baseball.  Nolan grinned and ran off to talk to a new friend.

"We love coming here (Eureka Hills Branch Library) to storytime," said Hrdlicka.

"We live so close we can just walk here, and that's great," he said, as he bounced squirmy 6-month-old Lynnlee while his wife, Jill, helped their two older kids with their craft.

He said they would observe Father's Day by going to the lake for a couple of days, then returning to Eureka to celebrate with his own dad.

More than 25 children, along with their parents and grandparents, attended the popular library storytime on Thursday.
