ReplyHeard the same rumors...
Also think it is unfair there are only 3 home games. Would like to see them back on Fridays for the obvious reasons.
These kids are tired enough in the morning already - having these games on Thursdays will make for some more exhausted kiddos. -

ReplyThey are destructive tent caterpillars Julie. They eat trees and make those webs in the trees. They should be eliminated or they will spread rapidly. These pests will turn into moths. I agree, have seen hundreds of these in the past couple weeks!! It's like we are being invaded!

ReplyMary, there are studies supporting DARE and studies that don't. You can find both on the Internet. However, what we do know is what our children tell us and our own personal experiences. Teaching young children about the dangers of drug, tobacco and alcohol abuse is not a bad thing. Police presence and rapport is not a bad thing. Both of these are being offered to our children at NO cost to the district and yet they still decide to yank it from the curriculum. Start trimming the fat elsewhere- instill a pay to play system in athletics, run smaller buses to the rural areas that have less than 10 kids on the bus, cut/freeze salaries. DARE is not the problem.

ReplyThank you Julie, for reporting this very sad news for our children! Both my children are DARE graduates and I cannot emphasize enough the positive impact this has had on them. Not only were they educated about the dangers of all drugs and prepared to handle peer pressure situations, but they were given the opportunity to form a positive relationship with a Eureka Police Officer. Officer Jenn is widely loved and respected in Eureka, and is someone the children have had a chance to know personally through this program. It is a complete shame that Rockwood would think of eliminating this program without parental input, especially since it does not cost them a dime. I am so disappointed!
