The RNC is a mess, and it started with the ridiculous T-Partiers (supposed conservative Republicans) who almost pushed us off the fiscal cliff last year, and collectively voted down the measures to address the deficit. I'm actually feeling sorry for Boehner these days- trying to lead dumb, fat cats... Obama's had a coordinated, consistent and strategic focus- which is not typically found among most CEOs- including those at Bain Capital.

Yes, I bought into the Starbuck/Schultz vision and bought several bracelets earlier this spring. The CEO was subsequently on CNN, talking about how they used about $200 million of these donations to start a coffee-mug production and stenciling shop in Ohio.
I'm glad they employed new people (about 100-200, as I recall), but found it to be a bit self-serving in that the campaign didn't say they'd use the money for in-house funds.
Starbuck's price hit a new record high value during that same period- coincidentially.
I'm all for the idea, but there should be complete disclosure if they're going to use it for their own business purposes.

Seems if motorcyle and antique car rallys are on the menu, perhaps they should not be permitted until after the last day of school if there are transportation and/or road or child safety concerns. Regarding the liquor license, proximity to school is a concern, but there should be at a minimum no minors allowed in the bar area in my opinion.

It is a great historic place, but does seem to have lost some of it's family-friendliness over the past few years.

It was my understanding the bus service for Rockwood is a contracted, outsourced service; not a direct wervice responsibility of the district. It would seem violations of non-compliance would be a bid/negotiation or vendor criteria, but the liability for complinace should rest with the bus company, not the district.

The capital/bond budget cannot be used for operating budget purposes, from my understanding of previous Rockwood board meetings. Current building capacity is 80% at elementary school leve, with projections to decline by 5-7% by 2015 (Rockwood's budget numbers). It seems more prudent to use current buildings (ICL or CCL) for future growth (early childhood center) & to NOT pass$43 mill capital now.

Lindbergh and Parkway, with comparative student performance (ACT 24, MAP ranks) and sociodemographics have much lower tax base (3.1 and 3.6)- and small tax populations) than Rockwood (4.3 tax base).. Rockwood's been drunk on funds too long and needs to learn fiscal restraint. In the above article, what's the difference or defintions of "school support" and "central admin"? And the practice of paying teachers upfront, in June each year the full summer salary robs the coffers for school start-up in the fall. Such a policy is not student or school focused.

Let's hope we can start to focus on the postiives now and build up our district's reputation, morale and resources to support our children's strategic education!
Some new blood, like Geoff Rigabar on the Board should help- as long as his prior work at Edward Jones doesn't cause conflicts of interest on school bond issues.
And it's encouraging we have such a pipeline of board candidates available, like Victor Hieken, Rob Thoele as well as the informative folks at RS for RS.

I didn't realize public pressure was so significant with regard to this issue. But perhaps it's a vote of no-confidence in the board's reconsideration of posting a bond issue on the ballot. I'm also perplexed about a recent report that the district "found" $880,000 dollars in some bond issue arbitration fund- what is that? While I'm all for transparency and close inspection of school board policies, I am beginning to wonder if all the controversy in Rockwood is affecting home values.

I was surprised how few citizens turned out for this meeting, given the headwinds facing the district. Although the vacant position is a temporary appointment, it would be a good training situation for someone wanting to run for re-election. Rigabar's apparent involvement with previous bond issues was not considered a conflict of interest. But I was unclear about whether his role was as a citizen, a consultant or "lobbyist". I was happy to see so many qualified, citizens ready to step into the job.

This is a great commemoration to a wonderful citizen-athlete. Albert Pujols has also been a mentor and life coach to another West county citizen; David Freese.
Albert and Diedra are wonderful community leaders and true St. Louis treasures who "walk the talk" through the Family Foundation work. We'll attend on Nov 2!!
