Missouri Route 109 Widening: Wildwood Residents React

Part 2 of 2: Wildwood residents who live or travel on Missouri Route 109 voiced feedback and asked questions at a Wednesday open house at city hall regarding the widening of a portion of the roadway used by 20,000 drivers daily.

Kristin and Mark Stinnett with their fingers traced a dotted line that went through their backyard on one of the enlarged maps portrayed at Wednesday's open house regarding future construction for Missouri Route 109 in Wildwood. The Stinnetts live in Hickory Manor Village Subdivision, on Hickory Forest Street, which backs up to Pond-Grover Loop Road. A proposed, major highway construction project was designed to improve the safety and flow of traffic there, but many Wildwood residents questioned whether a recommended two-lane roundabout was the right way to go at Wednesday evening's open house about the project hosted from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. "The accident rate on this stretch is about twice that of other similar roads in Missouri, and twice what we like to see," said Missouri Department of Transportation area engineer Michelle Voegele, at the open house. Approximately 20,000 vehicles travel through …

I agree. Hey MODOT engineers, show me stats where a stretch of highway with a higher than normal accident rate DROPPED because of the incorporation of a new roundabout. Don is right. They'll be ripping these out in a few years. MAYBE the stats are because that piece of highway is right along the high school, which has a preponderance of INEXPERIENCED DRIVERS. How many millions did we spend on the…   more ›
