Following is a summary of local election results from April 2, 2013. The "unofficial official" tallies will still need to be certified by county election officials before they will be considered "final, final."
Elected as unopposed candidates in the April 2 election were: Two Rockwood School District Board of Education director positions were filled from among four candidates, with voters giving the nod to persons who will serve their first term: Loralee Mondl (9,668 votes) and Jeffrey Morrell (7,815 votes). The other two candidates were board incumbents Janet Strate (4,250 votes) and Steve Banton (4,708 votes). The Eureka Fire Protection District Board of Directors one slot was won by board incumbent Francis "Butch" Oberkramer with 1,068 votes. Wally Wuelling was the other candidate; he had 873 votes. The one Monarch Fire Protection District Board spot available was won by Jane Cunningham with 5,679 votes. Cole McNary was the other candidate, …

On Tuesday April 2, voters in Eureka and Wildwood together head to the polls to elect city leaders, school board members, fire board directors, city council members, school board members. They also will decide the fate of a countywide ballot proposition on parks funding, as well as a proposition regarding a no-tax bond initiative for the Rockwood School District. Seats on all three fire protection districts, the Rockwood School District Board of Education, the Wildwood City Council and Eureka Board of Aldermen are all up for election.
This article updates previous candidates' list published in Eureka-Wildwood Patch on Dec. 11, Jan. 3 and Jan. 15. Editor's Note: See important update that follows from Feb. 12, 2013, regarding the disqualification of a Metro West Fire Protection District candidate. Metro West is headquartered in Wildwood. Metro West Fire Protection District has one position on its board that will expire this spring; it is held by Tim Flora, who currently chairs the group. Municipal, fire protection district and school board candidates were able to announce their candidacies with the filing period opening Dec. 11 in Wildwood and Eureka. Filing closes at 5 p.m. today (Tuesday, Jan. 15). The local election will be April 2, 2013. Metro West Fire Protection District has one position on its board that will expire this spring; it is held by Tim Flora, who currently chairs the group. Michael Thiemann, Metro's coordinator of emergency management, said Flora did file. Flora has served on this board for the past 12 years.
