Wreath Sponsors Sought for Veterans Salute

Local Missouri Civil Air Patrols representatives this weekend kicked off their annual, remembrance Wreaths Across America campaign. Orders received by Nov. 26 will be honored at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery.

Missouri Wing Civil Air Patrol (CAP) members throughout the greater St. Louis area invite people to sponsor remembrance wreaths for placement on the graves of veterans on Dec. 15 at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery. Wreath sponsorship starts at $15; orders need to be submitted by Nov. 26. Sponsors can designate where the wreaths will be laid in the local community. For the seventh year in a row, Wildwood resident David Miller will officiate the ceremony at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery at 11 a.m. on Dec. 15. Lt. Col. Miller is director of public affairs, Missouri Wing, Civil Air Patrol, U.S. Air Force Auxiliary. Soldier Memorial Inquiry Posed

A Wildwood resident asked about plans for a memorial in Wildwood dedicated to armed forces soldiers.

During the public comment portion of the Wildwood city council meeting held Monday evening, a resident asked if there were any public designations within the city for fallen and current U.S. soldiers who hailed from the local area. Marc Perez said such memorials appear in almost any small town, and that he believes it would be appropriate for Wildwood to have such a public designation. Perez asked if any military representatives from the local area had died during the 15 years that Wildwood has been incorporated. "I hope something's in place, planning for that eventuality," he said. Wildwood Mayor Tim Woerther said he indeed was aware of some local soldiers who had passed while serving.
