This has been a busy couple of days for GoApe! owner Chris Swallow, who is in town from Maryland to meet with St. Louis media and park users. Tuesday's St. Louis County Council meeting also sent the proposed treetop course in a different direction.
The motto of the treetop adventure course company whose owners sought to build a new obstacle course in Greensfelder Park in Wildwood is "live life adventurously." Maryland-based GoApe! owner Chris Swallow is in St. Louis this week to personally explain the company's newest planned adventure, which targeted a 7- to 10-acre spot in this more remote West St. Louis County Park, and to share the community benefits GoApe! delivers in the other cities in which they do business. Swallow's personal exploration of the matter—combined with a petition from Greensfelder Park users at Tuesday's St. Louis County Council meeting—prompted him to now seek alternative locations for the park. GREEN SPACE THREATENED? St. Louis County Parks and Recreation Department representatives would like to place a treetop adventure course in Greensfelder Park in Wildwood, but local and area residents who oppose the concept started an online petition.
Several Wildwood residents at Monday's city council meeting raised major concerns about the proposed treetop adventure course being recommended by St. Louis County Parks and Recreation Department managers to be built in Greensfelder Park in Wildwood. Current county park plans are to enable a privately owned, Maryland-based company to transform about seven acres of Greensfelder into an treetop zipline and obstacle course. "We are making sure nothing about the proposed treetop park is rushed," says the council member who directly represents Greensfelder Park in Wildwood, which is the proposed site for the new treetop enterprise.
Greensfelder Park in Wildwood falls under the area represented by St. Louis County Council member Greg Quinn, R-District 7. Consequently, many questions and inquiries are being directed his way since Saturday's information meeting held at the park to address concerns from park users about the ramifications that would result from a new treetop park being placed there.
