Legends Country Club May Be Open Again by July

The family-owned business is under contract for sale to new owners, who told a Eureka alderman that they hope to re-open sometime in June.

After months of uncertainty, the fate of country club at the Legends is looking more secure with news that the currently shuttered business is under contract for sale to new owners. Eureka Alderman Don Beckerle lives in the Legends and informed the city’s board of aldermen about the pending sale at a meeting Tuesday night. According to Beckerle, the new owners are a joint venture among three partners that have a background in the golf business. “We are excited that they have come to an agreement,” he said. The 18-hole golf course and country club closed in February after its owner Carmelo Natoli died last November. It’s still possible that the deal could fall through, but if all goes well, Beckerle said it could re-open sometime in June. …

Legends Golf Country Club Owners Say They "Won't Have a Fire Sale"

Numerous, potential buyers recently have been interested in The Country Club at The Legends, but family owners say they want to sell to someone who will respect the golf course and give them a fair price.

Various, potential buyers have been interested in seeing the Country Club at The Legends at 625 the Legends Parkway, Legends Club Manager Patti Natoli told Patch. However 70 percent are "simply curious," she said. "Positive things are possible, and we've had the fourth or fifth meetings with a few of the potential buyers. But we're not willing to sell it to the first person who simply offers money," said Natoli. "We're looking for someone who will respect the course and maintain it the way my father would want it. It's going OK, about as we expected." Obviously the club can not operate at a profit as a private club....the only option is for the club to be semi private...Ms Natoli has asked that the indenture for a private club be waived....this needs to be resolved at the next meeting, which I think is 4/16. There is a group called Walters Golf Mgt that owns/manages over 17 golf courses in the area and knows how to run a golf course at a …   more ›

Closed Legends Country Club "No Surprise," Says Eureka Alderman; Owners Cite Finances

Several Eureka Board of Aldermen said last week's closure of The Country Club at The Legends in Eureka seemed eminent. The family owners of the course say it merely became a financial decision. Following are next, expected steps.

Eureka Board of Alderman, Don Beckerle, Ward 3, said receiving a letter that The Country Club at The Legends in Eureka had closed operations did not surprise him and other country club members. "The writing was on the wall," he said at Tuesday evening's board of aldermen meeting. Read previous article:  Country Club Closes at The Legends in Eureka The good news, said Beckerle, is that four or five parties are interested in bidding on the course and country club. "We hope to see a smooth transfer of ownership in the next month or two," he said. "The course is good for Eureka, it's a main reason why the Legends has grown, and it's a big part of our community." The Legends club manager Patti Natoli told Patch Wednesday afternoon closing the …

Meet Eureka Alderman: Don Beckerle

Financial planner built career and life here. This is the sixth and last feature regarding profiles of all six Eureka board of aldermen. Patch thanks each one for sharing personal details!

When Don Beckerle was delivering newspapers as a young boy in south St. Louis, he probably didn’t think about a career path that led down Interstate 44. But once he arrived in Eureka, he was here to stay. “I started my first and current job here in 1988,” said Beckerle, who moved to Eureka to found Beckerle Financial Group, which provides insurance and financial planning and specializes in marketing, enrolling and administering voluntary insurance programs. In 2008 he ran for Ward 3 Alderman “to stay more in touch with activity within the city." Since moving to Eureka, Beckerle and his wife, Sherry, started a family, which includes son Josh and daughter Julia, as well as their dog, Coda. One of Beckerle’s favorite activities is fishing, …
