Starbucks Offers New $1 Reusable Tumbler

Would you pay $1 for the reusable plastic cup now available at St. Louis area Starbucks coffee shops? The first 30 received in Wildwood sold out; today there may be more available.

To lesson the load of trash from disposable cups, Starbucks Coffee is now offering a new reusable tumbler.  The Seattle-based coffee company is now selling the plastic cups for $1 at St. Louis coffee shops, including the one in Wildwood. Kristin Malva said the Starbucks' Wildwood team received 30 of the new cups about a week ago, but sold out of them on the first day. She said they hope to receive more tumblers today (Friday). The cups bear the Starbucks logo and resemble the paper cups. Starbucks is also offering a 10-cent discount for each refill.  According to USA Today, the $1 tumbler is reportedly the latest effort to address criticism and reduce the amount of disposable items that clutter landfills or end up as litter. Starbucks Expanding: Are More Coffee Shops Needed?

TAKE QUICK POLL: The coffee company reportedly plans to add at least 1,500 cafes in the U.S. over the next five years.

Associated Press journalists reported Wednesday that the world’s largest coffee company plans to add at least 1,500 cafes in the United States over the next five years. The report indicates Starbucks would have more than 20,000 cafes by 2014, up from its current count of about 18,000. The AP is also reporting the Seattle-based company also plans to move from its current Tazo tea and begin serving Teavana, which it announced it would acquire last month. There is currently one Starbucks Coffee location in Wildwood at Town Center. However, there are Saint Louis Bread Co. cafes in both Wildwood and Eureka. What do you think?
