Lawsuit Alleges Wildwood Police Violated Civil Rights

Wildwood city officials agree to allow St. Louis County officials to legally represent the city in Steven Wayne Elliot v. City of Wildwood, et.al. case. It involves claims of excessive force, as well as assault and batter.

Wildwood Mayor Tim Woerther received approval from city councilmembers Monday evening to enter into a contract with St. Louis County for county officials to legally represent the municipality in the Steven Wayne Elliot v. City of Wildwood, et.al. case. Wildwood resident Steven Elliot filed a lawsuit against a St. Louis County Police-Wildwood (6th) Precinct officer, indicating his civil rights were violated. Due to Wildwood's contract with the St. Louis County Police Department for police services, Wildwood as a city, also was cited in the lawsuit. POLICE LOG Jan. 21-27: This past week, St. Louis County Police Department-Wildwood (6th) Precinct officers also handled an attempted suicide and several accidents on area parking lots.

Following are recent incidences handled by St. Louis County Police Department-Wildwood (6th) Precinct officers: Jan. 21 An accident happened at Taylor and Main; no injury resulted. Sobriety Checkpoints Coming This Week for Wildwood

St. Louis County Police Department-Wildwood (6th) Precinct officers this coming week will participate in a stepped up effort to check drivers for Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) to help curb holiday injuries and deaths.

Where have you last seen sobriety checkpoints in Wildwood? You may be seeing them again soon. St. Louis County Police Highway Safety Unit and Division of Patrol officers will conduct sobriety checkpoints throughout the month of December. St. Louis County Police media officer Randy Vaughn said specially trained officers will check motorists to reduce the number of intoxicated drivers on streets and highways. Inconvenience to motorists will be minimal, he said. St. Louis County Police Department-Wildwood (6th) Precinct officers will participate in the 2012 Holiday DWI Enforcement Campaign Dec. 10-16 to stop people from driving impaired.
