Lawsuit Alleges Wildwood Police Violated Civil Rights

Wildwood city officials agree to allow St. Louis County officials to legally represent the city in Steven Wayne Elliot v. City of Wildwood, et.al. case. It involves claims of excessive force, as well as assault and batter.

Wildwood Mayor Tim Woerther received approval from city councilmembers Monday evening to enter into a contract with St. Louis County for county officials to legally represent the municipality in the Steven Wayne Elliot v. City of Wildwood, et.al. case. Wildwood resident Steven Elliot filed a lawsuit against a St. Louis County Police-Wildwood (6th) Precinct officer, indicating his civil rights were violated. Due to Wildwood's contract with the St. Louis County Police Department for police services, Wildwood as a city, also was cited in the lawsuit. Intruder Disarmament Training Offered to School Districts Around St. Louis

Law enforcement and school district officials shared area crises plans at a Safe Schools Partnership meeting Thursday. Police-led training could be provided to teachers and administrators.

St. Louis area police and school administrators are taking security measures in schools to the next level, even to the point of perhaps conducting training for teachers about how to disarm intruders and negotiate with shooters who invade schools. St. Louis County Police Department officers and members of the Safe Schools Partnership met Thursday morning at the Rockwood School District Administrative Annex in Eureka to continue discussions about how to bolster future safety in schools. St. Louis County Crimes Lowest in Four Decades

The 2012 report represents the fourth year in a row of overall crime reduction, according to police data. See which crime categories decreased and which increased.

Serious crime in areas protected by St. Louis County Police Department officers has decreased in 2012, dropping to its lowest level since 1969. The total population served directly by county police is more than 410,000. Index crime statistics comparing 2012 to 2011 in the municipalities served by county officers, as well as unincorporated St. Louis County, show an overall reduction of 8.7 percent.  The county police team stated in a news release the following update: These crime numbers include offenses reported in a community more recently contracted with the county police department last March—the City of Dellwood. West County Mosque Honors First Citizens' Police Academy Graduates

St. Louis County Police said more than 50 St. Louis area Muslims competed the mosque's first-ever citizen police academy. The graduation ceremony was this week.

Wednesday night, a graduation ceremony was held at the Daar-ul-Islam Mosque located at Weidman and Manchester roads for its first-ever Citizen Police Academy. Citizen Police Academy to be Offered by St. Louis County Police

Eight sessions are planned on Wednesday nights, starting Feb. 27. The Citizens Police Academy is open to all St. Louis County residents and is free.

The St. Louis County Police Department, Fenton Precinct and West County Precinct officers will co-host a Citizen Police Academy at the West County Precinct, 232 Vance Road, Valley Park, next month. The classes will be from 7 to 9 p.m. on eight consecutive Wednesdays, beginning Feb. 27, with graduation on Apr. 17. The academy also will include two field trips during the eight-week period. Woman Charged With Assault in DWI Crash

Another driver was injured after the woman drove her car into other vehicles stopped at traffic light on Highway 141.

A West St. Louis County driver faces a criminal charge after the woman struck two cars waiting at a stoplight on southbound Highway 141 in Ballwin, injuring another driver. St. Louis County Police said the woman who caused the accident was driving while intoxicated. Sarah C. Johnson, 42, of the 2400 block of Barrett Heights Drive in West St. Louis County, was charged Saturday with second-degree assault. St. Louis County Police said Johnson was southbound on Highway 141 and hit cars stopped at a stoplight near Milldale Drive and Manoro Way at the Ballwin city limits. One of the other drivers fractured a vertebra, police said. An officer responding to the accident smelled alcohol on Johnson, who told the officer she had two glasses of wine …

Rockwood Students 'Shop With a Cop'

St. Louis County Police officers, with the West St. Louis County precinct, took kids shopping this holiday season to help them buy gifts for themselves and their families.

St. Louis County Police West County Precinct school resource officers chose 15 kids from the Parkway, Rockwood and Valley Park School districts to participate in holiday program to secure gifts. St. Louis County Police officers started Saturday, Dec. 16, with a breakfast for the kids at the Elks Lodge in Manchester. St. Louis County Police Department officers teamed up with the Elks Lodges from Manchester, Ellisville, and St. Louis to help raise money so children from West St. Louis County could go shopping with an officer at an area store of their choice on Dec. 16. Police said the Elks raised $1,500 and gave 15 students a $100 gift card each to “Shop With a Cop” for personal Christmas Gifts. Kids purchased presents for their families …

Safe Schools Partnership, St. Louis County Police will Meet

This police-only, internal meeting is being called to discuss what changes in security that school districts leaders would suggest, as everyone processes and works through the tragedy that occurred Friday at Sandy Hook Elementary School.

Due to the recent event in Connecticut, St. Louis County Police Department officers and members of the Safe Schools Partnership just announced Tuesday morning they will be meeting this Thursday at 9 a.m.  Safe Schools Partnership of St. Louis County was launched during the 1998-1999 school year. It is a collaborative agreement between the county police department, area police departments, school districts, and other concerned agencies, with the sole goal of assuring safety for children. The meeting—which is for officers only—will be held at the Parkway School District Instructional Services Center. Wildwood Authorizes $2.9M Police Contract with St. Louis County

Wildwood's police service specifics for next year were approved at Monday night's city council meeting. It was done within a multiyear master agreement entered into during 2007 and extending through 2021.

Wildwood city council members on Monday approved a $2,946,544.08 contract with St. Louis County Police Department for 2013 services. This amount represents only a $4,288 increase over the 2012 agreement. The contract encompasses 33 officers and one civilian, who serves as the office administrator. The city's Board of Public Safety members, who are Wildwood residents, reviewed the terms prior to council members, and unanimously recommended its approval. Those board members are:  Bill Garrett, Charlie Spohn and Bud Mantle. Wildwood marshal Bob Warren chairs the group.
