Six Flags-St. Louis Celebrates 40-Plus Years

PHOTOS: June 5, 2011, marked the 40th anniversary of the opening of our region's Six Flags amusement park. It was the company's third theme park, and their last one built from scratch. Loyal former employees gathered to celebrate that year in Eureka.

An outpouring of love for Six Flags-St. Louis oozed from Eureka during the anniversary weekend of June 2011, as original employees who were the foundation of the theme park gathered to remininsce and investigate the park's new offerings during the park's 40th anniversary kickoff. Now park employees look forward to opening their 42nd year of operations during 2013. Six Flags Leaders Optimistic Despite Quarterly Loss

Company moves forward with job hiring fairs to recruit 3,000 employees for the upcoming season. The third and last job fair is Saturday. New body slide will open this summer in Eureka-based Hurricane Harbor.

Despite being part of the world’s largest regional theme park company with $1 billion in revenue and 19 parks across the United States, Mexico and Canada, Six Flags Over St. Louis in Eureka reported a fourth-quarter 2011 loss of $102 million, according to the St. Louis Busines Journal. This loss is greater than a year ago at the same time, with a loss of $94.3 million in the fourth quarter of 2010. However, Six Flags reported $350 million of adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization in 2011 – the highest in company history, said Six Flags spokeswoman Elizabeth Gotway.
