Nearly 250,000 people join gun violence survivors' letter to Walmart to demand the retailer stop selling assault weapons and deadly munitions. A protest is scheduled for Tuesday in front of Newtown, CT-area Walmart.
Editor's Note: The Walmart Supercenter in Eureka sells 15 to 20 types of firearms, including assault rifles, but not hand guns. Do you agree that Walmart should cease carrying assault weapons? A sporting goods employee at the Eureka Walmart tells Patch assault rifles are on back-order, and could take up to two years to replenish the inventory. This Tuesday, Jan. 15, at 11 a.m. EST gun violence survivors indicated they will join dozens of Walmart customers to demand that Walmart—the nation's largest gun retailer—honor a 2004 pledge to stop the sale of assault weapons and munitions in their stores nationwide. Gun violence survivors, consumer watchdogs and concerned citizens will rally outside the Walmart in Danbury, CT, just minutes from …

"Stop Teaching Kids to Kill," says retired Lt. Col. Dave Grossman, author of On Killing, On Combat and Warrior Mindset. This American writer and trainer specializes in the study of the psychology of killing—which has been termed 'killology'.
So, the brutal, merciless, savage mass murderer of first-graders in Connecticut was another in a long line of avid video game players who turned their sick fantasy into our tragic reality. Surprised? asks Dave Grossman, a Mascoutah, IL, resident who is a retired lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Army and now speaks internationally about human aggression and the roots of violence and violent crime. Editor's Note: The observations in this guest editorial/opinion piece were offered to Eureka-Wildwood Patch by Dave Grossman, international trainer and creator of a program to prepare people to help survive brutal attacks: www.GetBulletProofMind.com Grossman was introduced to Patch by an area firearms' instructor, Greg Pugh, who was interviewed …

In the wake of the tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary in Connecticut, the owner of a military and law enforcement supply store in Chesterfield says such laws and regulations won't solve the problem.
The tragic death of 20 children and six adults in Connecticut at the hands of a heavily armed gunman has ignited a national debate about gun control, specifically the access of private citizens to military-grade gear. A federal ban on assault rifles passed in 1994 under Bill Clinton expired in 2004 and now many gun control advocates are calling for it to be reinstated, but Chesterfield resident Chad Weinman and CEO of TacticalGear.com says that won't solve the problem. The online company has a brick-and-mortar facility located on Edison Road in Chesterfield and primarily sells clothing and equipment such as holsters, vests and dynamic entry tools commonly used by tactical law enforcement teams or military personnel, but not firearms or …

In the wake of the Newtown, CT school massacre, St. Louis County Police Chief Tim Fitch will visit schools this week to discuss increasing security, including putting guns in elementary schools.
St. Louis County Police Chief Tim Fitch and police officers will begin visiting St. Louis County schools Monday morning, according to KMOV-TV. Fitch said he's received numerous calls from area schools concerned about security since Friday's mass shooting in a Newtown, CT, elementary school. He said officers will step up patrols around all elementary schools in the 12 school districts within their service. Fitch acknowledges most high schools and some middle schools, including those in West St. Louis County, have armed school resource officers. However, elementary schools are not normally protected by officers. Fitch wants to see armed resource officers or armed school officials in those schools, according to KSDK-TV. He points out that …
Teachers in Texas carry guns to protect students. Will pressure to do so swell in the Show-Me State? "Which teachers do have a firearm must be kept secret from students and fellow teachers, no exceptions."
One local gun advocate believes it indeed is possible for teachers to handle guns inside school buildings. But Wildwood resident Marc Perez said anyone who carries a firearm must assume a certain degree of responsibility. "In a 'crowd' like a school for a teacher, a significant, professional and extensive additional training would be required for a teacher to carry a firearm. Once an intruder enters a school with the intent to do harm, the police are minutes away while the threat may begin within seconds. The math does not add up," said Perez. He said there are instructors available with the proper credentials to give such training in the St. Louis metropolitan area. As a National Rifle Association (NRA) Certified Range Safety Officer, …

We all want to do the blame game when something bad happens, but yet we let our children play video games that show so much blood and death and we think that's ok! We dont want to take away auto's when a drunk or stoned driver hits someone and kills them. We see our country's moral standards drop more every year, its okay for a woman to have an abortion just because she doesnt want the child but …   more ›
