When's the last time you've stopped in at the Eureka Chamber of Commerce? Its space is shared with the city's director of economic development.
This week, I had the opportunity to volunteer at the Eureka Chamber of Commerce. It was quite a pleasure. Chamber executive director Kelly Lubker juggles many different types of requests and activities. Even during the blustery snow of the day, the chamber's offices at 22 Dreyer Avenue provided a warm and inviting setting. As an affiliate Missouri Tourism Welcome Center, the office has a plethora of brochures, maps and fliers regarding possible places to visit in Missouri. But it also includes a large rack with slots for business cards from local business owners and managers. Missouri has seven welcome centers located throughout the state. For synergy, Lubker shares office space with Julie Wood, Eureka's director of economic development. …

The historic bridge at Route 66 State Park visitors' center runs over the Meramec River near Eureka, but is not safe for pedestrians, cyclists or vehicles. The bridge was 80 years old this year.
The bridge that originally carried Route 66 over the Meramec River, near what was the city of Times Beach, is starting to be disassembled this week just outside of Eureka. A crew member from XL Contracting, the staff handling the deconstruction of the bridge, told Patch Monday the concrete on the bridge will be cut into slabs and taken off, along with the railing. He said the bridge's beams will be left, in hopes that some entity will want to rebuild the bridge in the next five years. He also said the bridge work was slated to be done by Dec. 14. The Meramec River Bridge was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on Sept. 16, 2009, according to Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) records. The Meramec River Route 66 …

A liquor license application for Big Chief Restaurant on Manchester Road's historic Route 66 in Wildwood leads to public hearing Tuesday night.
Due to Big Chief Roadhouse Restaurant's close proximity to Wildwood Middle School and Living Word United Methodist Church, the new owners' request for a liquor license required a public hearing. The hearing was held Tuesday evening at the Wildwood city council meeting. Wildwood city clerk Lynne Green-Beldner said all police and zoning-related matters for the restaurant had been approved. City Council member Ron James, Ward 6, said the current owners had spent quite a bit of money remodeling the restaurant. "I hope it can reopen soon, as its a historic restaurant along Route 66. I wish them good luck." The restaurant building has been in place since 1929, and is listed on the national register of historic places. When City Council member …
