Last Chance to Attend Hunting, Firearms Laws' Public Hearing

A public hearing will be held at Wildwood City Hall Tuesday evening to determine if the city's current set of hunting and firearms regulations should be altered for additional public safety. Where should the lines be drawn?

Tuesday evening's public hearing about hunting and firearms at Wildwood City Hall gives anyone with a firm opinion about the current set of dictating laws in the city a chance to weigh in. The 6:30 p.m. public hearing will cover Wildwood's current hunting and firearms regulations that govern the locations where hunting is permitted as well as the types of devices permitted for hunting, including air guns, archery devices and firearms. Wildwood city officials indicate the intent of Tuesday's review is to determine if the current set of regulations are sufficient to protect the public's health, safety, and welfare from hunting activities throughout the city. Will Wildwood Pack Open Pistols in Future?

WATCH VIDEO ABOUT SENATE BILL 680: An overwhelming 93 percent of Patch poll respondents were in favor of open carry gun options in Wildwood. Will city representatives lift the ban in the future?

Missouri statutes allow for open carry firearms in designated places, however, some municipalities have local ordinances that prevent it. Part of the national and state gun debate recently was brought close to home. There was "public safety" committee meeting April 5th, I will go on to present a change in the Wildwood laws regarding firearms. This will no doubt take a while. We the people have the right to "bear arms". This is a right which "shall not be infringed" according to the constitution, we just have to convince the City Council to read and understand the Constitution!   more ›

Prohibiting Open Carry Guns in Wildwood Violates Rights, Claims Residents

TAKE POLL: Some Wildwood residents believe not allowing open carry guns in the municipality is a violation of their Second Amendment rights. They said open carry is allowed in 95 percent of Missouri, and ask why not in Wildwood.

Two Wildwood residents appealed to Wildwood city council members to consider changing the city's prohibition of open carry guns at the city's most recent council meeting on Feb. 27. "Wildwood's ordinance that prohibits open carry goes well beyond simply having a hand gun on your hip in a holster," said Marc Perez, a Wildwood resident who said he is working with Jefferson City legislators to remove what he considers an infringement of Second Amendment rights. "If you have a firearm in your vehicle, on the seat, or a rifle rack in a city which prohibits open carry, you can be arrested. If you have a conceal carry permit and it becomes visible to a law enforcement officer by accident, same thing," said Perez. Perez said the question he poses …

‘‘Laws that forbid the carrying of arms... disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes... Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man.’’ — Jefferson's "Commonplace Book," 1774-1776, quoting from On …   more ›
