All 165 members of the Missouri National Guard’s 1138th Transportation Company, based in St. Louis, were welcomed home Saturday.
Hundreds of family and friends—many holding signs and balloons—waited anxiously for the return of their solders from Afghanistan Saturday afternoon at the First Evangelical Free Church. The Missouri National Guard unit had arrived at Lambert Airport around 11 a.m. Saturday morning and were then bused to the church, where they waited out of sight in another room. The crowd burst into applause when the service members filed in and took their seats. The 1138th Transportation Company is based at Jefferson Barracks. They’ve spent the last year working out of Bagram Airbase, Afghanistan, where they ran more than 90 convoy missions to deliver supplies to operating bases. University of Arkansas system officials announced three finalists who are candidates to become the new director for the Arkansas School for Mathematics, Sciences and the Arts. A Rockwood administrator is among the three.

Three people were announced Wednesday as finalists for the director’s position at Arkansas School for Mathematics, Sciences and the Arts (ASMSA), after a nationwide search. Matthew Frederickson, Ph.D., director of curriculum, fine arts coordinator, band director and AP music theory teacher for Rockwood School District is one of the trio of educators being considered.
