With the April 2 election day drawing near, Patch wants to make sure voters are able to make informed choices about the two candidates vying for the open seat on the Monarch Fire Protection District’s board of directors by providing their answers to a questionnaire sent out earlier this month. The spot on the three-member board left vacant by Kim Evans decision not to seek a second term is being sought by former State Senator Jane Cunningham and former State Representative Cole McNary. Cunningham was redistricted out of the state legislature after she opted not to run in a relocated district, while McNary ran unsuccessfully for State Treasurer. Municipal, fire protection district and school board candidates were able to announce their candidacies with the filing period opening Dec. 11 in Wildwood and Eureka. Filing closes at 5 p.m. today (Tuesday, Jan. 15). The local election will be April 2, 2013. Metro West Fire Protection District has one position on its board that will expire this spring; it is held by Tim Flora, who currently chairs the group. Three fire leaders were promoted this month for Monarch Fire Protection District. Monarch's House No. 2, at 18424 Wildhorse Creek Rd., services Wildwood residents.
Three district officers were promoted at Thursday's Monarch Fire Protection District board of directors meeting at the district's headquarters. Monarch Fire Marshal Roger Herin released background information about the officers in a Tuesday press release. John Borgmann will be Monarch's assistant chief in charge of operations. As a 31-year veteran, he was hired as a firefighter in January of 1981. He was promoted to captain in 1988, and to battalion chief in 2006. Nick Harper will be Monarch's deputy chief supervising emergency medical services. Hired in April of 1979 as a firefighter, he is a 33-year veteran.
