Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) and Washington, MO, city officials will break ground at 10 a.m. Friday, April 5, for the Missouri Route 100 widening cost-share project west of Route 47. Construction work will occur between Route 47 and High Street, and is expected to begin the week of April 8, weather-permitting. MoDOT will make the following improvements on this section of Route 100: Construction was awarded to Millstone Bangert Inc., for approximately $6.2 million. This section of Route 100 in Washington has exceeded its capacity for a two-lane roadway and can no longer handle the amount of traffic that uses it on a daily basis resulting in long traffic delays, said Kara Price, senior customer relations specialist. Drivers heading downtown on Interstate 70 this weekend may want to consider alternative routes, as Missouri Department of Transportation employees will close various lanes on the interstate this weekend. Crews will place girders over the interstate as part of work to connect the future new Mississippi River Bridge to Cass Avenue. The following lanes and ramps will be closed: Friday evening rush period drivers heading into the city may want to consider other routes due to potential congestion on eastbound I-70. Overnight Friday, drivers should allow themselves extra time to get to their destinations, or take alternate routes. Motorists should be aware of the following on-going closures:

St. Louis Cardinals fans will have two lanes on eastbound Interstate 64 open for all scheduled National League Championship Games. The exit ramps from eastbound I-64 to 6th and 11th Street will both be open to allow Cardinals fans to get to the games. Cardinals fans traveling on I-70 should remember the express lanes are closed into downtown while the gates await repairs. All fans should allow a little extra time to get to a game. MoDOT will also close two lanes on westbound I-70 between Cass and Madison next Monday thru Wednesday (Oct. 22-24) at 8 p.m. for construction on the Missouri I-70 interchange. Motorists from Illinois heading to events in downtown St. Louis this weekend may want to allow a little extra time, or use Metro to avoid traffic backups. All lanes on westbound Interstate 64 from the Poplar Street Bridge to 21st Street will close starting at 10 a.m., Friday. All westbound lanes will reopen by 5 a.m., Monday. One eastbound lane will be open during the weekend work. The Broadway, 10th Street and 14th Street entrance ramps to westbound I-64 will be closed this weekend. A driver was injured in a commercial truck/Jeep accident Thursday while heading westbound on Interstate 44, west of Antire Road near Eureka. Plus, transportation managers now say I-44 Antire Road project will not be complete until next month.
A Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) spokesperson stated Thursday that crews were working hard to get all eastbound and westbound lanes near Eureka from Lewis Road to Antire Road reopened by early- to mid-October, weather-permitting. The westbound exit and entrance ramp at Antire Road also is expected to open next month. The lanes originally were expected to reopen in mid-September, but MoDOT faced unexpected utility delays during the project. There also are additional pavement repairs that need to be finished before the eastbound and westbound lanes can reopen. Missouri Department of Transportation crews started work to remove and replace the driving surface of the eastbound lanes on the double-deck structure on Interstate 64 downtown. Drivers can expect one lane closed around-the-clock on eastbound Interstate 64 downtown between Jefferson Avenue and the Poplar Street Bridge. A second lane closes weekdays from 8 p.m. until 2 p.m. the following afternoon. In addition, the ramp from Forest Park Avenue to eastbound I-64 is closed around the clock. These ramp and lane closures are scheduled to remain in place until November.
