The Missouri Department of Transportation announced MoDOT Director Kevin Keith's resignation today. Effective immediately, Chief Engineer Dave Nichols will serve as interim director.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol is kicking up enforcement this weekend searching for drunk drivers as St. Patrick's Day celebrations take place around the St. Louis area.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol (MSHP) is warning drivers to "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over." Troopers and other police departments around the St. Louis area will be taking place in enforcing the campaign as St. Patrick's Day festivities take place throughout the area. The MSHP made the announcement in a recent news release. During the period of March 14-17, police are cracking down on drunk driving by conducting DWI saturations in an effort to remove impaired drivers from the road. Impaired driving contributes to nearly 30 percent of all Missouri fatal traffic crashes, the release stated. The Associated Press is reporting that two winning Powerball tickets were sold for last night's drawing.
No one has stepped forward yet, but the Associated Press is reporting that two winning tickets were sold for last night's Powerball lottery. The AP says the winning Powerball tickets came from Missouri and Arizona. The winning numbers are 5, 16, 22, 23, 29 with the Powerball number of 6, according to the Powerball website. Missouri Lottery officials say the winning ticket came from the Kansas City area. An exact store location will be released later today, according to spokeswoman Susan Goedde. “It is so exciting to sell one of these Powerball tickets,” said May Scheve Reardon, executive director of the Missouri Lottery, in a press release. “In addition, we sold two tickets that matched all five white balls, which means they each win $1 …

Democratic incumbent Clint Zweifel gave his acceptance speech just before midnight Tuesday, after a night of number watching in a close race with Republican challenger Cole McNary.
Democratic incumbent Clint Zweifel and Republican challenger Rep. Cole McNary faced off in the Nov. 6 election for the position of Missouri State Treasurer. As results came in Tuesday night, both candidates gathered with friends and family at St. Louis area watch parties. Initially, it was a tight race, but ultimately Zweifel declared victory and thanked his supporters just before midnight. "I think a lot of this illustrates hard work and investment in each other," Zweifel said. With 100 percent of the precincts counted early Wednesday morning, Zweifel had 50.3 percent of the vote and McNary had 45.5 percent of the vote. According to the Department of Geosciences at San Francisco State University, more than 500 children have died because of being left in a hot car since 1998—11 have been reported thus far in 2012. Most of the time, parents or pet owners tragically forget about their kids or pets. But the incident rarely finds sympathy amongst the public. Even though an innumerable amount of trees were sacrificed in paperwork, only four items have any chance of making it to the ballot. Earlier in May, Secretary of State Robin Carnahan announced that various groups had turned in signatures for the following ballot initiatives: It’s not known yet whether any of these items will actually be put up for a vote. A new study ranks Missouri No. 15 out of all 50 states for corruption risk.
After evaluating Missouri’s laws for preventing corruption, a team of journalists and watchdog activists gave Missouri a 'C-', ranking the state No. 15 out of 50. Of the 14 categories graded, Missouri earned one ‘A’ (in internal auditing) and three ‘F’s (public access to information, political financing and state pension fund management.) "While blatant corruption is relatively rare in this state of 6 million residents, questionable behavior abounds within state government–particularly among lawmakers–and an undermanned ethics agency struggles to investigate and punish offenders," said Mike Sherry, who reported on Missouri for the project.
