Wildwood Home Struck by Lightning

All residents safely evacuated the house Thursday morning.

At approximately 6:45 a.m. Thursday, Metro West Fire Protection District firefighters were called to a report of a lightning strike that started a house fire at 1602 Wolf Trail Road in Wildwood.  The first fire crews on the scene found smoke showing from the roof of a house, said Metro West's Coordinator Michael Thiemann. Metro West Firefighters worked quickly to suppress the fire and check for extension, said Thiemann. “The biggest challenge faced by crews was the location of the fire. That particular area requires a tanker response” said Metro West Chief Vincent Loyal.  "We had to implement a water tanker shuttle operation so it was necessary that Metro West receive additional assistance from nearby fire districts. Metro West Fire Board of Director Resigns

A special meeting was called on Tuesday evening by Metro West Fire Protection District board of directors.

Metro West Fire Protection District board of directors convened a special meeting Tuesday evening to accept the resignation of director Mike Noonan. He resigned due to relocating out-of-state to pursue an employment opportunity, stated a fire district spokesperson.    Noonan was a Wildwood resident elected to the board during April 2011:  Metro West Fire Protection District Results for April 5 Prior to that election, Noonan served the fire district from 2001 through 2003 by filling a vacancy. In March of 2010, he once again stepped forward to serve Metro West citizens when a vacancy was created by the death of Board Chairman Bob Reboulet. He was a senior manager for St. Louis-based Express Scripts. Noonan's vacancy and unexpired term was …

Voters for Metro West Fire Board See Extra Notice at Polls

Anyone who has a ballot today that includes Metro West Fire Protection District will see an unfamiliar sign at their polling place. It's surprising some voters.

Voters going to the polls on Tuesday whose ballots encompass Metro West Fire Protection District are seeing an unusual paper sign taped at each voting machine. It reads: Steve H. Ward has been Removed from the Ballot by Court Order for the office of Director of Metro West Fire Protection District. Any votes cast for this candidate wil NOT be counted or reported. Metro West Fire Board Candidate Disqualified

One of the two board of director candidates for the upcoming Metro West Fire Protection District has been disqualified by the St. Louis County Circuit Court.

St. Louis County Circuit Court officials announced they had disqualified Stephen H. Ward as a candidate for the position of board member and director for the Metro West Fire Protection District.  Metro West just issued a notification that court's officials determined Ward “failed to timely comply with the filing fee requirements. Therefore, being disqualified as a candidate, the court orders that Mr. Ward be removed as a candidate, in the April 2, 2013 election ballot”. Because the ballots already were printed for the election, Ward’s name will not be physically removed from the ballot.  The election commission shall post signs in each applicable polling place that the candidate has been “Removed from the Ballot by Court Order”. House Fire in West St. Louis County Sends One Victim, One Firefighter to Hospital

At approximately 8:40 a.m. Saturday morning, Metro West Fire Protection District firefighters were called to a report of a house fire in Sherman, which is in unincorporated St. Louis County. Water-access issues led to other area fire districts helping.

One St. Louis County resident and one Metro West Fire Protection District firefigher were treated at an area hospital for smoke inhalation, after a Saturday morning fire took over a house in Sherman, MO, in unincorporated West St. Louis County. Metro West coordinator Michael Thiemann said the first fire crews on the scene found fire in a one-story structure fully engulfed. "Initial reports were that a person was trapped in the residence, however, it was quickly determined that everyone was out of the structure." He said Metro West firefighters worked quickly to suppress the fire of the wood-framed structure. Icy Water Warnings Provided by Metro West Firefighters

More caution signs are being erected locally after the dog rescue in Wildwood from an icy pond by Monarch Fire Protection District firefighters. Find out how many bodies of potentially frozen water the Metro West Fire Protection District covers.

Metro West Fire Protection District firefighters and paramedics remind Wildwood residents of the dangers that are posed by ponds and other bodies of water that freeze.  Last Saturday's icy water rescue involving a puppy who went onto ice to play with geese in Wildwood accentuated the pitfalls of frozen water in the winter:  Wildwood Dog Rescued from Icy Pond by Monarch Firefighters Metro West Chief of Fire and EMS Services Vincent Loyal said while frozen water may be appealing, and seem exciting, the dangers are real, immediate, and potentially fatal.  "In many incidents this single decision can put friends, family and emergency responders lives at risk," he said. Victims of Superstorm Sandy Get Experienced Metro West Fire Rescuers

Rescuers from Wildwood-based Metro West Fire Protection District headed to the East Coast as of 10 hours ago.

Four members of the Metro West Fire Protection District deployed at approximately 10 p.m. Monday to meet up with other members of Missouri Task Force 1 being sent to help with East Coast storm-related problems. Metro West rescuers headed to assist with Superstorm Sandy impacts include Battalion Chief John Bradley, Captain Jim Silvernail, Captain Brian Zaitz, and Captain Steve Heidbreder. The Wildwood-based team members then deployed at 1 a.m. on Tuesday from Columbia, MO, as part of Task Force 1 team that includes 80 personnel and 100,000-plus pounds of equipment. Eureka, Wildwood Firefighters Head to Superstorm Sandy

Local firefighters and specialists in water rescue are heading to the East Coast Tuesday to assist with the aftermath of Superstorm Sandy.

Four Eureka Fire Protection District and three Metro West Fire Protection District firefighters who specialize in water rescue head to the East Coast Tuesday (today) to assist with issues caused by Superstorm Sandy. They are being deployed as part of Missouri Task Force 1, which comprises 80 personnel and more than 100,000 pounds of equipment. They also are authorized to add additional water rescue components, according to a news release issued by Gale blomenkamp, burea director of Boone County Fire Protection District, which serves as the headquarters for Missouri Task Force 1. Task force members are headed to Herndon, VA, to stage and await their mission assignment, stated the release. They hope to get into position by 5 p.m. today. The …

Two-Story Home Catches on Fire in Wildwood

A few hours ago, five area fire districts fought together to tackle a residential blaze in Wildwood. The firefighters involved would like to remind everyone to have their furnaces checked.

Firefighters responded to a house fire at 18501 Bucks Creek Lane in Wildwood at approximately 2:25 a.m. Friday.  The first fire crews on the scene found heavy fire in a two-story structure, said Metro West Fire Protection District spokesperson Michael Thiemann. The family was safely evacuated from the structure after being alerted by smoke alarms, he said.   "There were no injuries due to the fast actions from a neighbor whom called 911, and the working smoke alarms in the home” said Metro West Chief Vincent Loyal. The alarm was brought under control with crews from Metro West Fire Protection District, Eureka Fire Protection District, Pacific Fire Protection District, West County EMS & Fire Protection District, and the Monarch Fire …

Lafayette High Fatality and Three Injured in Mock Accident

VIDEO AND PHOTOS: Drunk-U-Drama—A SIMULATED CAR ACCIDENT—was conducted this week at Lafayette High School to provide students with concepts about the dangers and ramifications from driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

Lafayette High School students in Wildwood got a firsthand look at what happens when firefighters have to extract someone from a vehicular accident, how injuries are handled by emergency responders and what immediately happens when a person is arrested for driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Metro West Fire Protection District firefighters and St. Louis County Police Department officers combined efforts to simulate real situations they encounter, in hopes that Lafayette students will make smart choices to save lives while driving, especially during Homecoming festivities, which occur tonight and tomorrow for the Lancers.
