A first-time, unique partnership between two of Rockwood School District high schools leads to trip of a lifetime for orchestra students.
At the end of last week, 42 students from Eureka and Marquette high schools traveled to England to showcase their orchestra talents. Under the direction of James Nacy, of Marquette, and Patti Fleer, of Eureka, students will perform three concerts that feature a mixture of English and American music, ranging from Purcell to Lady Gaga. Participating students paid their own expenses for the trip through combinations of personal financing and fundraising. Fleer said the students were excited about having this opportunity to travel and perform in England. “The prospect of sharing their talent and love of music with other people in another country will be the best part of all; I’m sure it will be a highlight of their high school experience,” …

At Sunday's Rockwood School District Board of Education meeting, directors approved the hiring of three administrator positions: executive director of student services, director of research, evaluation and assessment and director of professional learning
The following new Rockwood School District positions are effective July 1, according to a district news release issued late Monday. Executive Director of Student Services – Katie Reboulet Katie Reboulet has held the position of Rockwood's director of human resources for the past five years. Prior to that, she served at Rockwood Valley Middle School as the principal for four years, an assistant principal for eight years, and a social studies teacher for two years. Her first year of teaching was as a social studies and community service teacher at Lafayette High School. Reboulet earned a bachelor's degree in education from the University of Missouri-Columbia, a master's degree in secondary school administration from the University of …

In the spirit of the season, Marquette High School students and staff are working to brighten the holidays for some U.S. troops in Afghanistan. It started by sending chocolate chip cookies to a 2004 Eureka High grad stationed there.
This week, Marquette High School students are baking 2,000 chocolate chip cookies, and collecting toiletries and movies to send to troops overseas and locally. The project started with the idea to help Rick Branson, a 2004 Eureka High School graduate and former Marquette teacher, who is currently deployed to Afghanistan as a lieutenant in the Army National Guard. With the support of the school community, the project expanded from helping Branson to the 1138th Combat Engineer unit, which has 138 soldiers. “Marquette is a caring school community and this project is a wonderful example of that.
