'Backpack Attack' Led by Wildwood Church

This positive, community service project hosted by Living Word in Wildwood will put 250 furnished backpacks into the hands of Rockwood School District families in need. Everyone can help by donating just a few items before July 25.

For the past several years, congregants of Living Word United Methodist Church in Wildwood decided fewer students should face a new school year without the necessary supplies to do their best work. So, while witnessing the economic downturn that affected more and more local families, Living Word volunteers decided to put their school supplies where their mouths were. For anyone wishing to donate supplies or who wants to assist with assembling the backpacks, watch this customized video. It shows and tells what to do in a very creative manner, especially considering the delivery form. Blanketing Others in Blankets

Living Word United Methodist Church youth in Wildwood ensure that more homeless people in the St. Louis metropolitan area will have warmth at night.

Approximately 70 middle and high school aged youths at Living Word United Methodist Church in Wildwood continued to kick off the new year by taking some time to think of others. On Sunday evening, they gathered at church to make fleece blankets to donate to AmeriCorps, whose volunteers will distribute them to homeless individuals in St. Louis. At last count, the youths completed about 50 blankets in 2 hours. Adam Mustoe, director of youth ministries at Living Word, said it was the fifth year of the annual blanket-making project. "It's nice to know we're helping folks on the street," he said. "One of the things I like most about this community service project is that it's manual labor that anyone can do. It's something the students can do …

Heaven Is Like...

One Wildwood pastor is conducting a sermon series about how miracles on Earth help us to see what heaven is like. His sermons lead up to some ways we can think of the tragedies of Sept. 11.

Rev. Michael McIntyre said Sunday it never was God's plan for humans to experience heaven only after death. "This life was supposed to be paradise; that's what God intended all along," he said. McIntyre is conducting a four-week series on the "Promise of Heaven and the Afterlife" as lead pastor at Living Word United Methodist Church in Wildwood. Click here to hear an audio or watch a video of his first sermon Sunday. McIntyre said ever since Adam and Eve, God has tried to bring wholeness back to this world. He said there is no darkness, disabilities, or pain in heaven; only complete healing. "God planned for us to live in heaven all along," he said. "That's why it greatly affects the way we live here on Earth. We shouldn't be waiting for …
