Bandana Bash/Wildwood 5K Walk Registration Still Open

Get some personal fitness while benefiting two cancer-related charities at the same time this Saturday. Then join the sixth annual Bandana Bash charitable event right after the walk in Wildwood.

Join other participants on Saturday, Sept. 8, for the Bandana Bash/City of Wildwood 5K Walk. This inaugural event benefits two local charities:  Friends of Kids with Cancer and Leukemia 24/7. Both entities help children with cancer, as well as assisting funding for the research and care for cancer diseases. The walk will start at Lafayette High School in Wildwood and will travel east from there through nearby subdivisions to Zicks Great Outdoors. At the finish, all walkers will be treated to a pancake breakfast at no charge, and shuttle service back to the school. Entry fee is a $25  donation, which all goes to the two aforementioned charities. The fee also allows participants to receive a T-shirt commemorating the event, and refreshments …

Volunteers Make 'Bandana Bash' Successful

Hundreds of individuals, companies and organization pull together every year to host the Bandana Bash at Zick’s Great Outdoors Nursery in Wildwood.

As the barbecue smoke wafted over the trees at Zick's Great Outdoors Nursery & Landscaping Co., local people gathered last month to honor their friend who lost his life to leukemia. Every year, they call their event the "Bandana Bash." (See article published prior to event:  Fight Leukemia: Bandana Bash 2011) “One-hundred percent of the food for the Bash was donated,” said Mike Hallahan, a Wildwood resident who is one of the founders of the event. In addition to the donated foods, hundreds of other donations meant that more funds can be targeted for cancer research and help for cancer victims.  A command center was housed in a motorhome the volunteers pulled alongside the wood-fired cooker. Fight Leukemia: Bandana Bash 2011

This weekend event, which originated in Wildwood, focuses on finding bone marrow donors and raising funds to support that cause.

Dash to a bash! It’s more than just a weekend food and music event. Bandana Bash 2011 also celebrates the life and legacy of West Countian Todd Zick, whose fight to find a cure for leukemia continues. Zick, who was diagnosed with the disease while still in college, succumbed to leukemia in 2010. In his short life, he organized Leukemia 24/7, and personally began bone marrow drives in Wildwood, Ballwin, St. Louis and Springfield. His family and friends continue his efforts with the TTIF (Thank Todd It’s Friday) portion of the Bash, which runs Friday and Saturday, Sept. 9-10, at Zick’s Great Outdoors Nursery & Landscaping Co., at Clayton and Strecker Roads in Wildwood.
