Missouri Department of Transportation managers released a list of major renovations and upgrades completed in 2012; several of the projects benefit Eureka and Wildwood residents.
Last year, Missouri Department of Transportation made some significant improvements to roadways in the western and southern regions of St. Louis County. Some of the projects improved what transportation professionals deem to be the busiest interstates in the greater St. Louis area. “We’ve made some extensive improvements to our interstate system to help relieve some of the problem areas during our morning and evening commutes, which helps keep the roadways safer for residents and commuters traveling through the area," stated Michelle Voegele, MoDOT’s SouthWest St. Louis County area engineer, in the release. This morning, MoDOT’s St. Louis District Engineer Ed Hassinger announced two major construction projects are near completion: I-64 double deck (Poplar Street Bridge) rehabilitation and I-44 at Antire pavement replacement.
On Interstate 44 near Eureka, Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) crews are wrapping up major work on a pavement replacement project from Lewis Road to Antire Road. During this year’s construction, MoDOT teams rebuilt the pavement so motorists have a smoother commute, said MoDOT’s St. Louis District Engineer Ed Hassinger. Guard cable is an added safety feature to this section of I-44 to help prevent crossover crashes, he said. "To complete this project, crews will perform striping work early next year, weather/temperature permitting," said Hassinger. There will be periodic lane closures at the construction zone during non-peak travel times.

Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) employees will close two lanes on eastbound Interstate 44 from Bowles to Interstate 270 on Sunday, weather-permitting, stated a department spokesperson. Only the far left lane will remain open. This work will occur from 5:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. During this work, the South Highway Drive entrance ramp to eastbound I-44 will be closed. Motorists will detour to Larkin Williams Road/Rudder Road. If crews finish installing the signs early, two lanes on westbound I-44 at Lindbergh will close that day for sign installation work, according to a MoDOT news release.

Westbound Interstate 64 in downtown St. Louis will be closed from the Poplar Street bridge to 21st Street starting at 6 p.m. Friday and reopen by 3 a.m. Monday. One eastbound lane on I-64 from 21st Street to the Poplar Street Bridge will be open starting at 6 p.m. Friday. The Broadway, 10th Street and 14th Street entrance ramps to westbound I-64 will be closed this weekend. All ramps, including 14th street on ramp will reopen by 3 a.m. Monday. Crews are continuing work to remove and replace the driving surface on the westbound double deck structure. Lane closures on Interstate 44 near Antire Road Drivers on I-44 this weekend around Antire Road near Eureka can expect various lane closures and traffic switches.
