Trailer Truck Driver Hits I-44 Median

A motorist's medical condition caused him to have driving difficulties Thursday evening while traveling on Interstate 44.

A trailer truck driver from Rolla, MO, experienced an unknown medical condition Thursday around 8:37 p.m. while traveling westbound on Interstate 44, 0.2 miles east of Missouri Route 100, which prompted him to travel off the left side of the roadway and strike the median wall, according to authorities. New Traffic Problems Stem from I-44 Accident Overflow

It's now starting to sprinkle in the fatal accident area of Interstate 44, which obviously could contribute to slower movement, too.

Avoid the Eureka and Wildwood area of Missouri Route 109, Interstate 44 and now Fox Creek Road today. Missouri Route 100 will be next to back up. After an early morning accident on I-44 between Eureka and Pacific that resulted in a fatality, just west of Six Flags St. Louis, drivers are seeking alternative routes—but there aren't any great choices. Drivers trying to head east and north are getting trapped in the three intersections at Six Flags Road/Allenton, due to the stoplights not cycling, or rotating, due to the constant stream of westbound traffic diverted off of I-44 and underneath the overpass. The Fifth Street outer road in Eureka has been receiving more and more traffic, with some drivers, including truckers, getting off I-44 …

Eureka motorist Alexander Vergara, 40, and Union motorist Michael McKnight, 49, were slowing for traffic associated with the Interstate 44 construction zone when Pacific motorist Michael Bates, 22, didn't ease up the speed in time, according to a Missouri State Highway Patrol report. The accident occurred at 6:45 a.m. All of the drivers were heading eastbound on Interstate 44, just 0.5 mile east of Lewis Road. Bates was driving a 1997 Chevrolet Tahoe. He struck the back end of Vergara's 2008 Nissan Titan, causing him to hit the rear end of McKnight's 2004 Chevrolet Suburban. All three drivers were wearing safety belts, according to authorities. Bates was taken by a Eureka EMS crew to St. Clare Hospital. His Tahoe was towed from the …

I-44 Truck Crash Occurs on Same Day MoDOT Announces Construction Delay

A driver was injured in a commercial truck/Jeep accident Thursday while heading westbound on Interstate 44, west of Antire Road near Eureka. Plus, transportation managers now say I-44 Antire Road project will not be complete until next month.

A Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) spokesperson stated Thursday that crews were working hard to get all eastbound and westbound lanes near Eureka from Lewis Road to Antire Road reopened by early- to mid-October, weather-permitting. The westbound exit and entrance ramp at Antire Road also is expected to open next month. The lanes originally were expected to reopen in mid-September, but MoDOT faced unexpected utility delays during the project. There also are additional pavement repairs that need to be finished before the eastbound and westbound lanes can reopen. Ironically, Thursday also brought another accident within the construction area, during which a driver of commercial trailer truck attempted to change lanes on I-44 and …

Wright then hit the concrete median and came to a stop in the lane of Johnson, facing eastbound on I-44. Johnson and Rossomanno both struck the center median, and came to a rest in the second lane of …
