Following are recent incidences handled by St. Louis County Police Department-Wildwood (6th) Precinct officers: Dec. 24: A traffic stop at Clayton and Strecker Roads found two people charged with a drug violation. Police received a complaint and handled warrants to be applied for violating a restraining order on Green Pines. A person was arrested for Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) at Old State Road and Missouri Route 109, after having an accident and leaving the scene. Dec. 25 While responding to a report of suspicious people at Anniversary Park, police found a person with a drug violation. Hidden Valley ski area in Wildwood welcomed its 30th anniversary of operations this winter season. As part of the celebration, Hidden Valley owners executed a $2 million expansion over the summer that increased the resort's terrain by 30 percent. The new area, named West Mountain, includes an 1,800-foot blue trail called Route 66 and a black diamond trail called Cold Rush. The new Route 66 run is the resort’s longest. (Blue trails are rated as such because they are considered “intermediate” trails that are steeper than beginner trails, and are popular at most resorts because they provide skiing that’s fun but not scary. Abigail Murer, a Wildwood resident, captures second Nature Valley NASTAR National Championships title, making history while doing it, reports Nature Valley NASTAR's online publication.
Wildwood resident Abigail Murer became the first person in NASTAR history to win both the raw time and discounted time during the Race of Champions at the 2012 Nature Valley NASTAR National Championships, held at Winter Park Resort, CO. Murer, a 15-year-old skier at Hidden Valley Resort in Wildwood, was said to have left her first mark in the NASTAR record book. She won her first Nature Valley NASTAR National Championships in 2011, which enabled her to travel to Chile to train with the U.S. Ski Team, reports NASTAR's online publication. At the 2012 Championships, Murer said she was more determined than ever to do it all over again, but better. Managers of the St. Louis area ski resort in Wildwood hope this recent string of cold temperatures hangs on for this week. They're aiming to open for the season Wednesday afternoon.
All Hidden Valley Ski Resort staffers wanted for Christmas was snow, but the white powder didn't come this year. The past two nights of colder temperatures enabled them, however, to start making their own snow with more confidence that it can be sustained for a while. Stemming from weather predictions for this week, Hidden Valley's Wildwood-based team members said the plan is to open Wednesday at 1 p.m. Hidden Valley General Manager Bill Brandes said they are "still shooting to open tomorrow afternoon," although it is "not a final decision." "As of this morning, we're still trying to get there," he said, taking a quick break from making snow. The resort has 12 ski trails as well as a snow tubing area. Peak Resorts representatives of Wildwood announced the $9 million purchase of Jack Frost Mountain and Big Boulder Resorts in the Pocono Mountains. Peak leased and operated this ski area since 2005.
