The Eureka sports-related business closed operations this weekend.
Owners of an athletic training and instruction facility located at 534 Workman Road in Eureka ceased operating this weekend. A Eureka-Wildwood Patch reader, who was trying to reach the Hitter's Choice, indicated the business phone number was disconnected. Patch discovered the same. The business shared the building that houses The Great Midwest Antique Mall, whose managers confirmed with Patch that Hitter's Choice had closed. Phil Berry, a Eureka resident, coaches his twin daughters’ softball team and said they have used Hitter’s Choice several times. "It was always busy, which makes it odd that it would close, especially when baseball and softball season is kicking into high gear," he said. "Now we will have to drive at least 20 minutes if…

The newest of a dozen Mattress Source retail locations is in Eureka, and the staff offers "beducation." Guess how much of your life is spent in bed.
"Approximately one-third of our lives is spent on our mattresses," said Josh Oaks, a sales associate for a new, local sleep-related business. A Mattress Source retail location is now open at 149 Eureka Towne Center Drive. It became the most recent of 12 Mattress Source locations in the St. Louis metropolitan region, including three stores in Illinois. Oaks said the company's nimble size enables them to work with similarly sized companies to offer custom-made products. He said it's best if customers come to the store to actually lay down on and feel the mattresses. "Our products are second-to-none, and may be hard to compare because many of our items are unique." He said shoppers' most frequently asked questions are: In addition to …

An official, grand reopening event will be scheduled in mid-February.
It was what could be called a "soft reopening" Thursday evening for El Nopal restaurant in Eureka. The restaurant's manager, Facundo Mendoza, said they were not sure if they could plan to be open Thursday because the St. Louis County inspector was scheduled to be there in the morning for the final assessment. When the inspector didn't arrive until the afternoon, the restaurant's staff began to wonder even more. But they were open to post homemade "We're Open" signs in the building's windows and give it a go. El Nopal formerly was located at 110a Hilltop Village Center Drive. The new location is 106 S. Central Avenue. See previous article from Dec. 3: El Nopal Restaurant Moves to Old Town Eureka Mendoza said a new menu is coming, and that …

The building that houses a restaurant that has been in business since the 1940s in Eureka is now for sale. Phil's Bar B-Q was known for serving unique, homemade flavors and recipes, which are done on an open pit and "smoked low and slow."
