Eureka's season comes to a close with a loss in a state playoff game played at Maryville Wednesay night.
The Hot Read: De Smet Jesuit advanced to the Class 5 state quarterfinal with a 59-38 win over Eureka Wednesday at Maryville. The Spartans (23-6) refocused on defense in the second half after only taking a four point lead into halftime to wear down the Wildcats (18-11). De Smet Jesuit was led by senior Nolan Berry with 18 points and 12 rebounds, while Eureka was paced by senior Tyler Jordan who had 17 in defeat. Key To The Game: Foul Trouble. After playing a full 32 minutes in De Smet Jesuit's win against CBC Friday, Jimmy Barton was plagued by 2 early fouls in the first three minutes of the game Wednesday and sat most of the first half. Eureka's leading scorer Mason Bodingo (15 pts ppg) also picked up 2 fouls early and was not an offensive…

Wildcats score 39 points in just six events, to finish just behind eventual champ Francis Howell. Lafayette High track athletes also took home some medals.
JEFFERSON CITY—As probably the youngest competitor at this weekend’s MSHSAA State Track and Field Championships at Lincoln University’s Dwight T. Reed Stadium, Eureka High School freshman Hannah Long was very nervous for the meet to begin. Long wasn’t sure what to do to get ready or how she should act once it began. “I didn’t know what to do,” Long said. “It’s my first time at state. This is such a big meet. I just wanted to do my best.” Fortunately for the Wildcats, Long figured out one thing she could do that would help the team: Run really fast. And that’s exactly what the she did in the three events she ran in on Friday and Saturday, which each produced a second-place point total—8 points each, which helped the Wildcats earn a …

Ballpark officials say Eureka senior's blast over the 335-foot sign in right field is the first home run ever hit over the fence at new Busch by a high school player.
Every baseball-related kid that's ever grown up in this area has dreamed of one day playing for the Cardinals, and someday hitting their first home run over the fences at Busch Stadium. Well, Eureka High School senior Aaron Schnurbusch might still be a few years away from accomplishing the former, but he did pull off the latter on Sunday, becoming the first high school player ever to hit an actual over-the-fence home run at the new Busch Stadium, in a 5-2 win for the Wildcats over rival Lafayette High School. "I was just thinking 'stay fair, please stay fair'," Schnurbusch said. "It was a hanging curveball, and I knew I put a good swing on it. I was running hard, because I thought it might hit the fence. But I saw it go over, and I thought…
Lancers and Wildcats renew their baseball rivalry on Sunday, at home of the World Series champions.
HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL — GAMEDAY PREVIEW Lafayette Lancers (11-5-1) vs. Eureka Wildcats (9-4) Sunday, April 22, 2012 — Noon — Busch Stadium The matchup that just might be the best high school baseball rivalry in the area will renew old acquaintances Sunday afternoon, when Lafayette High battles Eureka High at Busch Stadium, the world-famous home of the World Series champion St. Louis Cardinals. It's not the first time either school has played a game at Busch, but it is the first time Lafayette and Eureka have played each other there, so Sunday figures to be one of the all-time great days in the history of the Lancer v. Wildcat rivalry. This season, both clubs are off to fantastic starts. Lafayette is 11-5-1, and has only one loss in its …

The Mustangs secured a 3-2 soccer win over the Wildcats on Tuesday. Senior Geoff Silver scored twice, including the game-winner, to lift Marquette.
Three weeks into the 2011 boys soccer season, and no team in the area is on a hotter streak than the squad from Marquette High School. Already this season, the Mustangs (6-0-1) are unbeaten in six early-season contests, including a championship win at the St. Charles/St. Charles West Tournament, and five straight shutouts by goalkeeper Mark Goldstein. And through last week, Marquette was one of only 12 teams left in the area without a loss. On Tuesday afternoon though, the Mustangs got their first real test of the season, when Suburban West Conference stronghold Eureka came for a visit in the league opener for both ballclubs. And thanks to a brilliant first-half surge that led to two goals, and a stiff defense that held Eureka off at the…

Eureka High varsity and junior varsity football squads make solid showing against teams from Pattonville, Webster Groves, and Fort Zumwalt West at Fort Zumwalt West 'Jamboree.'
O’FALLON, MO — With only one week left before the official kickoff to the 2011 football season, teams from the St. Louis metropolitan region met Friday night at locales all over the area, for an evening of controlled scrimmages in live, game-day settings, that the teams call ‘Jamborees.’ In most cases, the setup is simple. Four teams agree to face each other in a live-hitting, group practice, at which no score is kept and no winner is declared. Jamboree games allow each team a look at where they really stand, heading into the season opening weekend, next Friday and Saturday. Local football fans were especially interested in the ‘Jamboree’ at Fort Zumwalt West’s Hoekel Stadium, which featured the host Jaguars, as well as a mixture of …
