The Eureka Police Department says it's cracking down on drunk driving this month with a "Zero Tolerance Means Zero Chances" message.

With prom and graduation season here, Missouri law enforcement want to make sure Missouri youth are celebrating safe and sober. It is illegal for someone under 21 to possess or consume alcohol in Missouri, yet youth make up a significant proportion of drunk drivers causing traffic crashes on Missouri roadways. The Eureka Police Department and the Wildwood precinct of the St. Louis County Police are collaborating with the Rockwood Drug-Free Coalition to provide a means to collect unwanted prescription drugs.
The Rockwood Drug-Free Coalition, local police departments and the Drug Enforcement Administration are teaming up to curb medication abuse and to provide an outlet for the public to dispose of unwanted prescription drugs. The Coalition is collaborating with local police departments to sponsor prescription drug take-back events from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at various locations throughout the area, according to a Coalition news release. The Eureka Police Department event is set at Eureka City Hall, 120 City Hall Dr., while the St. Louis County Police-Wildwood (6th) Precinct will host their event at the Fru-Con Center building located at 15933 Clayton Road. Despite evidence proving the benefits of wearing a seat belt, 33 percent of teens do not buckle up. Eight out of 10 Missouri teens killed in traffic crashes are unbuckled.
Eureka Police Department officers participated in the statewide youth seat belt mobilization conducted March 15–31. During the enforcement effort, officers issued a total of 75 traffic tickets including: Eight fugitive and three drug-related arrests also were made as a result of the crackdown, according to local authorities. “Seat belts are your single best defense in a crash. VIDEO: Senior and junior Eureka High School students witnessed a mock demonstration Thursday of three fatalities and injuries at an accident scene caused by alcohol-related reasons. Eureka fire, police, medical responders and MADD led it.
Eureka High School students will participate in the 2013 prom Saturday night. Local emergency personnel, police officers, firefighters, school leaders and parents want all students to arrive back home safely after a night of celebration. They hope they arrive home in a vehicle, rather than in a body bag. To remind and show students exactly what's at stake, local authorities hosted a demonstration on the Eureka High parking lot Thursday morning of a mock accident in which a drunk driver hit prom-goers. Students watched as three teenage fatalities were discovered and only one, very injured survivor was airlifted off by the ARCH helicopter team.
