A Fenton alderman asks all other municipalities, including Wildwood, to be open-minded to new options about how to approach the shared, or pooled, tax system used across St. Louis County.
I am not surprised nor upset about this decision [of Missouri legislation not being changed during this year's session regarding the pooled tax system for St. Louis County, also called a shared sales tax approach]. There have been many comments and conversations on this issue. At the heart of it is, repealing this bill will cause destabilization within our communities. I understand that, but the fact is that this bill was designed to "share" sales taxes with other communities because residents of other communities shop everywhere. Well that is true, but the fact is that 90 percent of the sales taxes generated in Fenton come from Jefferson County. We have lost a lot when Chrysler shuttered its plants and sent the work to Canada and …
Homeowners south of Highway 40 will save between $30 and $52 a year when the county’s new waste hauler contracts begin Oct. 3.
With prices rising on everything from food and gas to utilities and insurance, here’s some good news—if you live in unincorporated St. Louis County, your rates for trash service will be going down. The lower rates will impact unincorporated areas of the county, including areas surrounding Eureka, Fenton, Manchester and Town and Country, Affton, Mehlville, and Oakville. The St. Louis County Council recently accepted bids from IESI and Allied Waste for trash service contracts for the county’s eight trash districts. In March, the council approved extending the length of contracts with its waste haulers from three to five years in hopes of receiving better rates. “The council approved the lowest bids, but the paperwork is still in progress…

Congressman would face at least one other confirmed candidate, former state treasurer Sarah Steelman.
Echoing themes of limited government, living within means, and calling himself "a consistent conservative," U.S. Representative Todd Akin (R-Town and Country) entered what is now a Republican party primary field to unseat Democrat Claire McCaskill in 2012. “Missouri has a choice of two futures. And I’m determined to make sure that Missouri voters have an opportunity to exercise that choice. For that reason, I will be running for the U.S. Senate in the 2012 election,” Rep. Akin, who has served the 2nd Congressional district for 11 years, told supporters at the Drury Inn and Suites in Creve Coeur late Tuesday morning. Akin painted himself as someone with a record the "literal exact opposite of Claire McCaskill," using examples of McCaskill's…

Local businesses also are welcome to showcase their businesses. A space that is 8-by-17 feet for one day only is $20. A 17-by-17 …

The following comments and questions from a Rockwood School District parent were sent to Rockwood Superintendent Bruce Borchers about the district's decision to eliminate the traditional Drug Abuse Resistance Education program.
Eureka recently passed an ordinance that requires a prescription for Sudafed…an over-the-counter drug. At the time of passage, the proponents' claims included that this ordinance would assist in the “fight against the meth scourge that is encroaching on our neighborhood.” Geggie, Blevins, and Eureka Elementary schools are at the front lines of the fight against meth…literally…Franklin County has been profiled in the Post Dispatch, ABC, CBS, and the Wall Street Journal as a “meth capital”…this threat is “over the hill” from Eureka. During this week, it is relevant to note approximately two-thirds of all emergency medical providers are volunteers.
Emergency Medical Services Week was proclaimed for May 15 through 21 by Eureka Mayor Kevin Coffey and board of aldermen. The proclamation acknowledged that emergency medical services teams, including the Eureka Fire Protection District, provide lifesaving care 24 hours a day, seven days a week throughout each year. "Only a third of Americans rate their households are being 'very well prepared' for a medical emergency," said Coffey, which is why it is important to observe how access to quality emergency care dramatically improves the survival and recovery rate of those who experience sudden illness or injury. Designating this week also is an acknowledgment of the thousands of hours of specialized training and continuing education that …
It took the third game to settle the volleyball match between the Eureka Wildcats and Mehlville Panthers Saturday.
Last Monday evening the Eureka boy’s volleyball team suffered a 3-0 loss at the hands of the Mehlville Panthers in Suburban West Conference action. When the Panthers hooked up with the Wildcats in round robin play of the Class 4, District 2 tournament at Saint Louis University High School this weekend, they had something to prove. The Wildcats did just that as they took Mehlville the distance in a 25-22, 20-25, 15-13 loss to the Panthers last Saturday afternoon. “Mehlville is fundamentally as good of a team as anyone in the area,” Eureka head coach Greg Curran said. “It was a good match and it came down to the last couple of points. We gave ourselves a chance to win and their big players came up and probably made the difference for them…

Hi, Colleen. Did you happen to see the link included toward the end of this article regarding the way to "click" through to St. Louis County's website? They informed us that was indeed the best way for residents to determine what trash collection coverage was associated with various locations. It will have fill-in-the-blank fields for your address and zip code, after which "your services" will be…   more ›
