A Wildwood man faces a felony driving while intoxicated charge after being stopped along Manchester Road. Joseph Edward Stone, 50, of the 200 block of Catlin Avenue in Wildwood, was charged April 19 with DWI as an aggravated offender. Stone has three previous convictions for alcohol-related driving offenses. A St. Louis County police officer said he saw Stone driving and straddling the double yellow line in the 16800 block of Manchester Road. He said Stone also crossed a lane line and struck a curb while driving. The officer pulled Stone’s vehicle over and said the driver smelled of alcohol, had bloodshot and watery eyes and admitted drinking alcohol. St. Louis County Police said Roy Anthony Garozzo was driving halfway on the road's shoulder, swerved over and nearly struck another car.
A Chesterfield man is accused of his seventh alcohol-impaired driving charge after being pulled over on Manchester Road in Wildwood. Roy Anthony Garozzo, 52, of the 1000 block of Westmeade Drive in Chesterfield, was charged April 19 with driving while intoxicated as a chronic offender. Garozzo has six previous alcohol-related driving convictions. St. Louis County Police said an officer saw Garozzo driving halfway on the shoulder of the road at 11:57 p.m. March 23 at Manchester Road near Ellisville Towne Centre Drive. A Wildwood man faces a felony charge after being pulled over for swerving on Westglen Farms Drive near Downey Terrace on March 16. Clint Terrill, 25, of the 18700 block of Hardt Road in Wildwood, was charged Thursday with driving while intoxicated (DWI) as a persistent offender. He has two previous DWI convictions, and has another DWI charge pending. St. Louis County Police reported an officer spotted Terrill’s car swerving and almost striking other cars on Westglen Farms Drive at about 1:30 a.m. March 16. The officer pulled Terrill over and noticed a strong odor of alcohol and said Terrill had glassy and bloodshot eyes. Eureka police have released the results of their six-day crackdown on impaired drivers. During the 2012 Holiday DWI Enforcement Campaign, officers issued one ticket for driving while intoxicated; four speeding tickets; a safety belt ticket and 12 other tickets for various violations. Eureka Police Chief Michael Wiegand said removing even one drunk driver from the streets is a positive result. “When we remove a drunk driver from the roads, we’re all safer,” Wiegand said in a news release. “Law enforcement will continue to encourage drivers to make a simple, smart choice to drive sober.” Driving while intoxicated remains one of the top causes of fatal car crashes in Missouri, according to a Eureka Police news release. See the dates for when the Eureka Police Department and St. Louis County Police officers next will be cracking down on impaired drivers. It's part of a statewide sobriety check effort.
Nearly 30 percent of all Missouri traffic fatalities involved impaired drivers, according to state statistics. In 2011, 220 people were killed and 902 seriously injured in crashes involving an impaired driver. A man was charged July 18 with stealing a 2001 Chevrolet Camaro in Clayton. Matthew A. Grill, 33, of the first block of Muir Street in Eureka, faces car theft charge in St. Louis County Circuit Court. Clayton Police said in a report that Grill from a parking lot at 121 South Hanley Road between 8:30 and 11:59 p.m. March 30. Clayton Police arrested him the next day for driving while intoxicated, according to the report. He also was driving the stolen car, police said. Bond was set at $7,500.
