An early morning, single-auto accident on Saturday left a Gray Summit family now without their son. Services are this week.
Richard Zufall, a 22-year-old from Gray Summit, will be buried in Wildwood Friday in the Bethel Cemetery, after he died in a Saturday accident that occurred at 2:22 a.m. Zufall was heading westbound on Missouri Route 100, according to a Missouri Highway Patrol report, about 3.5 miles east of Route MM, when he missed a curve and traveled off the right side of the roadway. His 1992 Ford F150 hit a tree and overturned. According to highway patrol officers, Zufall's safety belt was damaged during the accident and he was ejected from his truck. He was pronounced dead at the scene by a Franklin County deputy. His body was transported to the St. Louis County Morgue. His trucked was totaled and towed from the accident area by Hyrndrich Towing. A House Springs woman was taken to the hospital Thursday evening after the driver of a SUV hit her car from behind.
House Springs resident Tricia McCartney was stopped in traffic while heading westbound on Highway 30 at High Ridge Boulevard Thursday when her car was hit from behind at 5:30 p.m. by a driver of a sports utility vehicle (SUV) from Cedar Hill. McCartney, 23, was driving a 2000 Toyota Celica. The other driver, 54-year-old Carl Keeven, was driving a 2002 Chevrolet Tracker SUV. Both drivers were wearing seat belts, according to a Missouri Highway Patrol report. McCartney was taken by a North Jefferson County Ambulance crew to St. Clare Health Center.
A House Springs woman died Thursday after she was taken by an Air Evacuation crew to Mercy Medical Center due to injuries she sustained in a two-auto accident.
June Rowden, 79, died as a result of injuries from a two-car collision that occurred at 9:30 a.m. Thursday on Highway 30 at Cedar Hill Road. According to a Missouri Highway Patrol report, Rowden was driving a 1991 Ford Escort, and attempted to cross the eastbound lanes of eastbound Highway 30. She pulled into the path of Cedar Hill resident Joshua Mattingly. Mattingly, 33, was driving a 2002 Dodge Stratus. The front of his vehicle struck the passenger side of Rowden's car. Rowden was not wearing a safety belt, according to authorities, but Mattingly was. Both vehicles were totaled.
