De Smet Jesuit's Defense Exhausts Wildcats In Sectional Win Over Eureka

Eureka's season comes to a close with a loss in a state playoff game played at Maryville Wednesay night.

The Hot Read: De Smet Jesuit advanced to the Class 5 state quarterfinal with a 59-38 win over Eureka Wednesday at Maryville. The Spartans (23-6) refocused on defense in the second half after only taking a four point lead into halftime to wear down the Wildcats (18-11). De Smet Jesuit was led by senior Nolan Berry with 18 points and 12 rebounds, while Eureka was paced by senior Tyler Jordan who had 17 in defeat. Key To The Game: Foul Trouble. After playing a full 32 minutes in De Smet Jesuit's win against CBC Friday, Jimmy Barton was plagued by 2 early fouls in the first three minutes of the game Wednesday and sat most of the first half. What Happened with the Eureka High School Boys' Winning Streak?

The Eureka High School varsity boys' team saw their five-game winning streak come to a halt after losses to Parkway South and Marquette in back-to-back days.

After going three weeks without a loss, the Eureka Wildcats varsity boys basketball team lost games in consecutive days. Behind Ryan McArthy's 17 points, Parkway South won at Eureka, 69-60, on Friday in a significant Suburban West Conference tilt. The win allowed the Patriots (16-4) to improve to 2-1 in league play and stay alive for the conference title. On Saturday, the Wildcats fell flat again at home in a 48-34 conference loss to a tough Marquette (12-8, 3-1)  team. Eureka is now 7-11 overall, and 1-3 and fading in league play. The loss on Friday for Eureka ended a five-game winning streak, which was frustrating for head coach Craig Kennedy. "It was absolutely disappointing that we didn't show up and were so flat," Kennedy said. "We …

Turnaround Continues For Eureka Boys' Basketball

Eureka holds off Rockwood Summit, 54-45, for its fifth consecutive victory. Once 0-7, the Wildcats are now 7-9.

It did not come easily, but the Eureka High School boys' varsity basketball team held off the Rockwood Summit Falcons on Wednesday night to win its fifth consecutive game. After working for more than 20 minutes to get back in the game, all it took was about 20 seconds for Summit to give it right back against Eureka. Trailing by as many as 12 points, the Falcons cut the deficit to just one midway through the fourth quarter before six Eureka (7-9) points in a span of 20 seconds opened the game back up and helped the host Wildcats beat the Falcons, 54-45. The loss was the fifth in a row for Summit (7-10). “We had one 40- or 50-second burst where they turned it over a bunch of times and tried to chase us a little bit and we got some easy …

Eureka Basketball Boys Gain Experience in Loss to Mighty Chaminade

Local prep superstar Bradley Beal scores 33 points as Chaminade beats Eureka, 85-57, in the semifinals of the Denver Miller Tournament at Kirkwood.

With Bradley Beal scoring 33 points, the Chaminade Red Devils tamed the Eureka High School varsity boys basketball team, 85-57, on Friday night in the semifinals of the Denver Miller Tournament at Kirkwood Senior High School. It is safe to say that most, if not all, of Eureka's players had not seen a team of this caliber before. The win for the Red Devils (15-0, 4-0 Metro Catholic) marked the fourth game this season in which Chaminade has scored 80 points or more. Two of those 80-point efforts have occurred in the Denver Miller Tournament. "I thought there were times where we kept our composure and we did a lot of good things, so hopefully the kids gained some confidence and say to themselves that ‘yeah, we can be successful’," Eureka head…

Hoops: Eureka Boys Finding Success in New Year

The Wildcats have won two of their games in 2011, after beginning this season 0-7. Eureka beat Normandy, 52-51, on Thursday and will play Chaminade tonight in the Denver Miller Classic at Kirkwood.

Despite being down 30-28 at halftime, the Eureka High School boys basketball team bounced back in the second half to defeat the Normandy Vikings, 52-51, in the first round of the 2011 Denver Miller Classic at Kirkwood Senior High School during Thursday evening. The win for Eureka (2-8, 0-1 Suburban West) marks the team's second win in the past three games after opening up the 2010-11 season with a seven-game losing streak. "We let their athleticism bother us a lot and obviously we had a lot of problems with them on the glass," Eureka head coach Craig Kennedy said. "Had it not been for (Landon) Cleary knocking down all of those 3-pointers in the first half, we could have been in a lot of trouble at halftime." Eureka senior guard Landon …

Boys' Hoops: Coach Kennedy Geared Up For Eureka Season No. 20, Starting Tonight

Head coach Craig Kennedy enters his 20th season at the helm of the Eureka High School boys' basketball program. The Wildcats went 11-15 last season.

The 2010-2011 Eureka Wildcats varsity basketball players expect to improve on last season's 11-15 mark, and say they have their collective sights set on a potential postseason run. Head coach Craig Kennedy is entering his 20th season at the helm of the boys' basketball program. His high expectations are fueled by the fact that the Wildcats are returning six lettermen, though they did lose their top three scorers to graduation. Leading the way is 5-foot, 9-inch senior point guard Jeff Wallner and 6-foot, 2-inch sophomore guard Tyler Jordan. Wallner had 41 steals last season. Kennedy also expects to get significant production from 6-foot, 3-inch senior forward Drew Braet, senior forward Deonco Williams and senior guards Landon Cleary and …
