Easter Plea Made At City Council Meeting

One Wildwood resident asks Wildwood staff and city council members to put Easter back into Easter.

During the public comment portion of last Monday evening's Wildwood city council meeting, a Wildwood resident asked that the city's "spring egg hunt" actually be publicly promoted as an "Easter egg hunt" in the future. "It's absurdity to call this a 'spring egg hunt,' and I'm tired of all this political correctness," said Thomas Loafmann to city council members. Loffman pointed out that Kwanzaa, Ramadan and Hanukkah are all referred to by the observations' rightful names. He said that he used to live in Oklahoma whereat the cities called the annual city event Easter Eggstravangzas. Agreed.......and while they are restoring the Easter egg hunt to its rightful name, perhaps they can stop the people who want to take "In God We Trust" off of our money and "One nation under God" out of the pledge of allegiance. If people do not like the principles on which this great country was founded, there are other countries in which they can live.   more ›

The Race Is On: A Dozen Candidates File for 9 Wildwood City Council Positions

One Wildwood ward drew no candidates, while another ward attracted five candidates for two seats.

Only two of Wildwood's city council member seats reflect contested campaigns prior to the April 5 election.  The huge race is in Ward 8, for which five candidates filed by this week's deadline of Jan. 18 for the two available spots. Wildwood has a total of 16 council members representing eight wards, plus a mayor.  When the municipality was incorporated in 1995, city officials deliberately established council guidelines to have rotating, or every other year, term expirations so that each ward ideally would have the consistency of at least one council member remaining as part of the community leadership group.
