Eureka High School’s students, staff, parents and community members donated more than 34,000 items during the 2012 canned food drive. Students worked together to sort the canned goods and other items on Friday, Nov. 9, according to a Rockwood School District spokesperson. By buying a raffle ticket at the Wildwood city tent Saturday at the Founders' Day Celebration, raffle ticket participants will help Circle of Concern feed more people.
A raffle will be hosted by Wildwood Founders' Day for Circle of Concern, an area food pantry headquartered in Valley Park. Circle of Concern assists families in need that live in the Rockwood, Parkway and Valley Park School Districts. Each month, this agency feeds more than 1,800 individuals and provides financial assistance to families on a case-by-case basis. Once a month, families go to Circle of Concern and receive a seven- to 10-day supply of fresh food. The goal is that each food order helps the family save money at the grocery store, so they can put their income toward utilities and housing. Money donated allows this agency to purchase food, in addition to the food that is donated. Raffle tickets are $1 each or six for $5.00. The …

A memorial visitation for this U.S. Marine and Pacific, MO, resident will be held from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Feb. 18 at the Schrader Family Center in Ballwin.
Loren "Doc" Hewitt died Feb. 8 at age 90. He was a Pacific, MO, resident. He was the husband of Dorothy Hewitt (nee Jarvis). He was the father of Patricia (James) Hoisington, and Gwendolyn Sage, as well as the grandfather of Eric Brooks, Stephanie Brooks, Adam Sage, James Hoisington and the late Gerald L. Sage Jr. He also was great-grandfather of three grandsons, and the brother of Kathryn Davis. He was proud to be a U.S. Marine in World War II, a captain in the University City Fire Department, and a bailiff in the Clayton Court House. A memorial visitation will be held from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Feb. 18 at the Schrader Family Center, 14960 Manchester Road at Holloway in Ballwin. Interment will be private. Local officials find much to appreciate in community treasures, people and service.
From the natural beauty of the countryside to the service of our police and fire departments, the Eureka and Wildwood communities have much to offer 365 days a year. Few people have as good a perspective on the area’s blessings as the people entrusted to be stewards of community resources: city officials. Patch asked Eureka and Wildwood officials to share what they’re most thankful about the local communities.
