What cost-cutting steps will be chosen for Rockwood School District now that the Proposition R $43.2M bond measure failed to pass in Tuesday's election? Are the district's gold standards in jeopardy?
Educating students is one of the most important challenges faced by every community in the United States right now, especially when it comes to financing all options people want for children. While a 54 percent majority of Rockwood School District voters supported the $43.2 million Proposition R in Tuesday's election, it fell short of the state’s requirement of 57.14 percent for passage of a bond issue. The deficit in voters was projected to be about 400. See related article from Tuesday night: Rockwood Voters Reject School Bond Measure With Rockwood being approximately the third largest district in Missouri and one of the biggest in the United States, many people now are focused on how Rockwood representatives and taxpayers will …

Several issues are on the ballots for Wildwood, including a mayoral's race. Voting traffic has been steady at both Eureka and Wildwood.
Various county-wide bond measures didn't phase Wildwood resident Rosemary DeArmond, who voted this afternoon at Starbridge Christian Center. Poll managers indicated about 1,600 voters are assigned to that polling place, although only approximately 120 had been through by about 1:30 p.m. County-wide measures for today's voters include: "All three were offered as 'no tax increases,' so I didn't have a problem with them," DeArmond said. How do you feel about these three measures? Editor's Note: Here's one of your last chances to give a shout out to your favorite candidates in the comments section below.

Two Wildwood fire stations would be renovated, if the $19.4 million proposal passes. It's been a decade since the last bond. Many voters had not heard Proposition L would be on the ballot until recently.
Voters in the Metro West Fire Protection District, which includes Wildwood, Ballwin, Ellisville and parts of unincorporated west St. Louis County, go to the polls on April 3 to decide whether to approve the district’s first bond issue since 2003. The district calls Proposition L a “no tax increase” bond issue. About half the $19.4 million from Proposition L would be used to replace equipment, including ambulances and pumper trucks, near the end of their lifespans, according to district spokespeople. Also planned are renovations for four of the district’s five stations, including the two located in Wildwood. The four facilities were each built between 15 and 32 years ago. Metro West is headquartered in Wildwood at Fire Station Three, 17065 …

Several of the 13 Wildwood municipal candidates present at Thursday evening's forum spoke of the need for consensus building and fresh starts.
Thirteen of 16 possible candidates in Wildwood's April 3 municipal races attended a candidates' forum Thursday evening held at Wildwood City Hall. The forum, which was hosted by League of Women Voters' (LWV) volunteers, was witnessed by approximately 50 Wildwood residents. LWV representative Nancy Miller said the forum was "based on issues, not on personalities." Each candidate received 2 minutes for an introductory presentation, 1 minute to answer each question posed from attendees, and 1 minute for wrap-up comments. Both mayoral candidates fully participated: former Wildwood mayor Ed Marshall, and the current (incumbent) mayor Tim Woerther. One term for a Wildwood mayor is four years. Marshall lives in Ward 2, and was first appointed to…

All St. Louis County voters, including Wildwood and Eureka residents, will decide April 3 whether to adopt the $100 million bond issue. Judges say it's about structures, too.
Crumbling concrete, closets stuffed with files and electrical outages are among the problems at the St. Louis County Circuit Court building in Clayton, Judge Douglas Beach said. So is safety. That's because the lack of space there, and at the county's Family Court building, often puts suspected criminals and their victims in the same room together. Beach said that on one occasion, a burglar approached the older St. Louis County resident into whose home he had entered. I know who you are, he said. Such scenarios cause people to be re-victimized, Beach said, and it's one of the things he hopes can be prevented if voters approve Proposition S on April 3. "This place isn't going to sustain itself," Beach said. (See PHOTOS in a separate article…
