Small Business Saturday is on Nov. 24 this year, two days after Thanksgiving. It is a day for everyone to support small businesses that help our community thrive. American Express founded the day in 2010 to help small businesses get exposure during the holiday season, when they might be otherwise overlooked. What currently constitutes a small business varies widely around the world. Small businesses were typically privately owned corporations, partnerships or sole proprietorships. However, in today's evolving business world at break-neck paces, more and more people are finding themselves in hybrid work situations that now also could be considered "small business" from some viewpoints. A year ago, as the U.S. economy was beginning its upturn, small business owners were looking for a way to attract customers, and according to American Express, a supporter of the new holiday, 93 percent of consumers like to support local businesses.
