Eureka Resident Hits Amazing Shot During First-Ever Golf Outing

Golf novice Larry Jost hit a 1-in-12,000 chance shot on the third hole of a charity golf tournament in St. Louis Monday.

Usually, the first outing on a golf course can be a rough experience for novice players with their shots more likely to land in a water hazard than on the green. And Eureka resident Larry Jost was one such golfer, having played the sport for exactly one day, when he did something even pro golfers may never do – hit a hole-in-one.   The amazing shot occurred during a charity tournament at Glen Echo Country Club on Monday, according to an interview with Jost by news channel KSDK, which noted that the chance of making a hole-in-one is approximately 1 in 12,000. Jost told the TV station the reaction from those around him was immediate, with people erupting into excited cheers and jumping up and down.   The feat netted Jost a check for $10,000…

Prices for Future Eureka Recreational Center Revealed

The Timbers facility being built in Eureka will have different hours for the building versus the aquatic complex.

While progress is being made on the recreational center under construction in Eureka, proposed usage prices for facility—now being called The Timbers—were unveiled at the Eureka Town Hall meeting Thursday night. Eureka Mayor Kevin Coffey told town hall attendees the recreational center was still on scheduled to open by mid-July. He said the planned prices for The Timbers' family rate are half of what the family rate costs at the Wildwood Family YMCA. Some residents wish an indoor pool that could be used year-round was part of the amenities of the new rec center, but city officials said the costs involved didn't allow for it until perhaps the future: No Indoor Pool at Eureka Recreation Center Has Some Not Splashing for Joy Coffey said an …

...(see previous post)... Another concern of mine is the maintenance and upkeep of The Timbers. Who is going to be doing the maintenance and upkeep? Will it be any of the Public Works employees or any other city workers? If so, how will they be paid? Will The Timbers be paying the same utility rates (water, trash, electric surcharge to the city) as other businesses or will it be subsidized by the…   more ›

Wildwood's First-Ever Cash Donation to Nonprofit to go to Pond Athletic Association

Pond Athletic Association is observing the organization's 50th anniversary this year, and asked Wildwood city representatives to support it. A total of $25,000 may be on its way to the group.

An ordinance to allocate a $25,000 donation to the Pond Athletic Association (PAA) was introduced at Monday night's Wildwood city council meeting. The money would come from the city's Parks and Recreation Department as a special project to contribute toward the entity's 50th anniversary this year. Wildwood Director of Planning and Parks Joe Vujnich said it is the first time city representatives would be donating a cash sum directly to a nonprofit group. "Council members wanted to be part of the anniversary observation," he said. City council members will vote on the ordinance for the second time on April 22 to finalize the allocation, although Mayor Tim Woerther noted at Monday's council meeting they still were waiting for a documented …
