Eureka Fire Protection District firefighters responded to a house fire on Edward Drive in Eureka early Thursday morning. There were no human or animal injuries. Friends are collecting clothes for displaced family.
Dogs are said to be 'man's best friend' in general, but it turns out they especially are best friends for people when a fire is coming! A dog of the Colleen and Kelly Krask family in Eureka woke up family members due to a fire moving through the family's attic at 76 Edward Drive just before 1 a.m. Thursday morning. No injuries to the family, or to their two dogs and two cats, occurred. Eureka Fire Protection District Deputy Chief and Fire Marshal Scott Mullins said firefighters were called onto the scene at 1:04 a.m. He said a preliminary assessment of the fire indicated its origin was in a shed in the back of the house. Young people are falsely posing as students of L’École Culinaire in an effort to get victims to buy phony magazine subscriptions, according to the Better Business Bureau.
The Better Business Bureau released the following alert Tuesday. St. Louis area residents should be alert for a new door-to-door magazine sales scam involving young people posing as students of L’École Culinaire, the Better Business Bureau (BBB) warns. A homeowner in the 5400 block of Pernod Avenue, in the city’s North Hampton neighborhood, said she was approached by a young man and a woman last week who asked her to buy magazine subscriptions to be sent to servicemen and women overseas. They told her that they were enrolled at the well-known culinary school in St. Louis County and were raising money to further their studies in Italy. The woman, Laura Dunn, was mother of nine children, including five with ages of 10 to 17 years. She died in a January accident.
The husband of a Wildwood woman killed in an Interstate 64 crash in January filed a wrongful death suit against the man police indicated caused the accident. Laura Dunn, 48, died after the car she was driving was rear-ended by a car driven by Jeffrey Dobner, 25, of Foristell, while traveling westbound on I-64 just east of Clarkson Road in Chesterfield, according to police. The lawsuit, filed on behalf of George Gregory Dunn of Wildwood, asks for $25,000 in damages and further relief as the court “deems just and proper.” Dunn was the mother of nine children, including five youths aged 10 to 17 years old. Former Wildwood police officer promoted to sergeant.
St. Louis County Police Chief Tim Fitch announced the promotions of Sgt. Dana Fulton to the rank of lieutenant, in addition to detectives Devin Rose and Joanna Jensen to the rank of sergeant, according to a news release from police officer and media representative Rick Eckhard. Lt. Dana Fulton is a 23-year police veteran currently assigned to the Bureau of Computer Services. He has served in the Affton Southwest and Wildwood Precincts, Bureau of Central Police Records, MetroLink Unit and School Services. Public safety protectors and first responders who have lost their lives in the line of duty will be honored Friday at 10 a.m. ceremony.
St. Louis' 35th Annual Uniform Day Memorial Ceremony will be held on Friday in the St. Louis County Government Memorial Park in Clayton. Eureka Fire Protection District serves the communities of Eureka, Wildwood, Allenton, Hoene Springs, Crescent, Southwest St. Louis County, and Northern Jefferson County. It was named the best district out of the 442 existing in Missouri.
Eureka Fire Protection District (EFPD) was named as the Fire Department of the Year for 2012 at the Firefighters Association of Missouri (FFAM) annual convention held in Hannibal, MO, on April 25-27. EFPD was recognized for outstanding service to taxpayers and residents through numerous service programs, safety and support programs for all members of the department and support for regional and statewide programs and trainings, according to EFPD Deputy Chief Randy Gabel.
