Fire Department Urges Citizens To Be Prepared in Wake of Major Storms

The Metro West Fire Department is holding an emergency preparedness class for residents at Wildwood City Hall tonight at 7:30 p.m.

Emergency management agencies in the Eureka and Wildwood area reported a relatively quiet night despite the massive storm that rolled through the area Monday and urged citizens to be prepared for the next big weather event. Michael Thiemann, with the Metro West Fire Department, said they activated their emergency operations center at 7:30 p.m. and had command staff in place to take action if necessary. However, no major structural damage was reported. “We did have a few wires down and limbs on roadways, but nothing unusual,” he said.   In light of last night’s storm and the tragic destruction in Oklahoma from a mile-wide tornado, Thiemann urged residents to take advantage of an emergency preparedness class sponsored by the department and …

Police Bust Meth Lab in Residential Eureka Neighborhood

Five individuals were arrested May 7 in connection to the suspected lab.

A residential Eureka neighborhood may have recently served as the site for a methamphetamine lab, according to a report from the city’s police department. The agency said they made five arrests in connection to a suspected manufacturing site for the drug on May 7 in the area of Shaw Drive, which is located off Meramec Boulevard. The arrested individuals all face felony drug charges. Eureka sits nearby a hot zone for meth production in Missouri. According to data from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Jefferson County, which borders the city to the south, accounted for roughly 17 percent of all meth-related incidents in the state in 2012. In total, there were 1,985 incidents related to meth in all of Missouri last year. Of that total, 346 …

Police on the Lookout This Week for Seat Belt Violations

The Eureka Police Department will be participating in a "Click it or Ticket" enforcement campaign May 20-June 3.

The Eureka Police Department will be joining efforts with statewide law enforcement May 20-June 3 for an aggressive “Click It or Ticket” mobilization to crack down on Missouri’s seat belt violations. Seven out of ten people killed in Missouri traffic crashes are unbuckled.  And even with all the advancements in automobile safety and education on the importance of seat belt use, Missouri’s seat belt use has remained relatively unchanged in the last six years and consistently below the national average. Missouri has 79 percent seat belt use, which is well below the national average of 85 percent.  Teens and pick-up drivers are among those least likely to buckle up at66 and 63 percent.  “Every day someone dies in a crash in Missouri because …

Police Log: Burglar Breaks Window, Enters Wildwood Home

Check out the incidents handled by the St. Louis County Police Department's Wildwood precinct from May 9-12.

The following arrest information was supplied by the St. Louis County Police-Wildwood (6th) Precinct. An arrest does not indicate a conviction. May 9 Identity theft report taken where credit cards were opened and used with the victim’s information. Altercation on the parking lot at 2401 Hwy. 109.  Suspect punched the victim.  We are currently looking for the suspect. May 10 Accident no injury on Hwy T and Ossenfort involving a deer. Burglary report taken on Lasiandra.  Subject entered house by breaking window which activated alarm.  No suspects at this time. Cops: Eureka Man Charged In Four Car Fire Cases

Police say Andrew Wos, of Eureka set two cars on fire at Missouri Baptist University and tried to set two more at Covenant Seminary earlier this month.

The St. Louis County Proesecuting Attorney's office has charged a former South African missionary in connection with four counts related to car fires on the Missouri Baptist University and Covenant Seminary campuses earlier this month. Andrew Wos, of Eureka, was charged Tuesday with four felony counts of Knowingly Burning Or Exploding, and was scheduled for arraignment in St. Louis County Court Wednesday morning. Authorities responded to a pair of car fires on the Missouri Baptist University campus May 1 and a few hours later were called nearby to Covenant Seminary, where they found vegetation stuck in the gas well of two cars which had not ignited.  Three days later, Missouri Baptist University officials announced that a suspect had been …

Elderly Eureka Woman Killed in Jefferson County Crash

An 8-year-old boy was also in the car with her but received only minor injuries.

Mary Howard, 74, of Eureka, was killed in a two-vehicle accident on Highway 30 in Scottsdale, Mo., yesterday afternoon.  According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Howard was traveling south on Rivermont Trail at around 3:30 p.m. when she pulled in the path of a vehicle heading west on Highway 30. The other car, driven by Angela Snider, 33, of Cedar Hill, then struck Howard's vehicle on its left side. She received minor injuries and was transported to St. Anthony's Medical Center.  In the car with Howard was an 8-year-old boy, Christian Howard, also of Eureka, who only suffered minor injuries in the crash. Two Caught in Wildwood Backyard With Items Stolen From Home, Police Say

St. Louis County Police said officers found Bobby Bird and Kaleb Briggs outside the burglarized house.

Two men were caught in the backyard of a Wildwood home they burglarized Monday, St. Louis County Police said. Bobby Bird, 28, of Wildwood, and Kaleb Briggs, 28, each were charged Tuesday with second-degree burglary and felony theft. St. Louis County Police said Bird and Briggs were arrested in the backyard of a home in the 100 block of Cherry Hills Meadows Drive in Wildwood. Police said they had just left the house at about 1:55 p.m. Monday and had a silver necklace and three gold rings taken from the home. Value of the stolen jewelry was estimated at $1,500.
