First things first, I'd tear that eyesore down! It's in one of the last areas of Eureka that has…Read More antique stores. It would be nice to have a "tea room" again in the neighborhood with landscaped walkways connecting it to the shops behind it.

Terry, I agree about making the antique shops back there more visible and accessible. It's actually…Read More kind of a quaint little area, but it can be hard to know it's there.

I hiked two trails in Rockwood Reservation and the Al Foster trail today. We are lucky to have so…Read More many great trails near Eureka and Wildwood! Enjoy them!

If you rear-end someone at a red light because they stopped short, then you shouldn't have been…Read More following too close. You know you are coming up to a signal, increase your following distance, slow 5 mph, and leave yourself an out. In my opinion, everyone should have to take, and pass, the SMITH system of driving.

Agreed...you are not supposed to speed up as you see a yellow light. In fact you should slow a bit…Read More when it is green and scope the intersection for safety as you proceed. That is called defensive driving...in case some nut case is running across traffic as you enter the intersection. I have done this and stopped for yellows all my driving years. A lot of drivers are too young to know that the allowed right turn on red wasn't enacted until the 70s oil/gas crisis. It was to save motorists' gas. That light when red should still be treated as a STOP sign with a full stop not a slow down and turn action.
People who disobey the law cost cities more money. In Wentzville after Pearce/Parkway intersection was widened, drivers still made u-turns near QuikTrip and Arby's, so more No U-TURN signs had to go up. I've still seen some u-turns in that area...people must be too lazy to do the correct thing. The license privilege should be more costly and actually require skills for safety to others...Eww you got a license after taking a written test and a feeble road test on a few side streets. Makes you a real good driver, huh? No testing on busy streets and Interstate Highways (another place where violations are many).
So much whining about paying fines from red light cameras, but not much crabbed about when paying your Personal Property tax every year for the vehicle. Don't violate the laws for red light running, speeding, etc. There are reasons for them that you probably don't comprehend.

Are the cameras worth it? My opinion - a big YES. The suggestion for a flashing yellow light…Read More warning of the red light is not so good. Doesn't anyone remember the DBC-s (days before cameras)? Yellow lights were our warning to hit the gas to get through. Now? I believe drivers (some) would rather NOT have their pictures--and proof--available to the PD and courts. Bottom line? Slow down, and if you have to stop for a light...so what? What will you lose - 30-45 seconds? Big deal...
