LHS is the only high school in Missouri to earn Top 10 recognition in all five areas of the Missouri Assessment Program (MAP) test. The school is a National Blue Ribbon School, as well as a two-time winner of the Missouri Gold Star School award. LHS was honored with the Red Quill Award for 2008-2009 by the American College Test's (ACT) Midwest Regional office.
LHS has been recognized as a National Top 10 Renaissance school since 1998. The 53-acre site supports a diverse approach to education, complete with a collaborative professional learning community model.

- How engaged is the school with the community?: The Key Club has more than 280 members who conduct community service projects. Other service groups include StuCo, NHS, community service classes and JROTC.
- What makes this community special?: LHS classes produce an impressive number of Bright Flight scholars each year. Among foreign languages emphasized, the school has a multi-culture club. Students also have a school newspaper and magazine.
