Whiz Kid: Eagle Scout Helps Eagles

This Sunday, Michael Proemsey, a Eureka resident and junior at Eureka High School, added another notch to his impressive accomplishments.

Proemsey's Eagle Scout service project consisted of constructing a roof system with a steel wire fence that covers a large 50-by-20-foot bird cage at . His father, Tom, said the cage was originally covered with a big net, but raccoons and other predators were getting through the net at night and harming the birds.

"It turned out to be quite the project. The structure also allowed for more unobstructed flight for the birds. Currently the cage houses condors," said Tom.

Michael currently plays on varsity volleyball team. He also played freshman basketball and tennis, and as a sophomore played junior varsity basketball and volleyball.  

He has a 4.0 grade point average, and is hoping to pursue a career in nuclear engineering. Previously, he was interviewed for a KSDK Channel 5 feature about a weeklong nuclear engineering summer camp he attended last summer at the Missouri University of Science and Technology in Rolla, MO.  

He enjoys bass fishing, playing golf, and building custom computers for friends and family as a hobby. He is active with an area Bible study group that meets on Sunday evenings, and he volunteers at St. John Lutheran Church in Ellisville, operating their PowerPoint presentations for Saturday evening and Sunday services.
