West St. Louis County Rotary Sponsors Future Leader

A fortunate high schooler attended an interesting, annual leadership academy.

Rotary Club of West St. Louis County members chose Ali D’Antonio, a junior at in to attend the 2011 Rotary Youth Leadership Academy held at William Woods University in Fulton, MO. D’Antonio presented an overview of the Academy program to Rotary Club members at their Aug. 23 meeting.

The goal of the four-day academy is to teach students how to develop and administer quality service projects, following the Rotarian service value of "service above self." Sponsorship for each attendee is typically $400.

"I was very impressed with the Missouri Rotary Youth Leadership Academy. The RYLA program is fortunate to have a talented and dedicated volunteer faculty," said Rotary Club member and representative Harry LeMay.

He said the theme of the Academy is service leadership and involvement. It is the only Rotary International board-recognized multidistrict RYLA in the world, sponsored by Missouri Rotary districts 6040, 6060, and 6080, according to the Academy's website.

"I would like to express my appreciation to the counselors of Lafayette High School for their support of the program. Also, Ali represented our Rotary Club and Lafayette with distinction," said LeMay.
