Session 2013 – Capitol Report IX

This week, your House of Representatives discussed proposals to strengthen Missouri's economy, create jobs and increase transparency in government.

“Were we directed from Washington when to sow, and when to reap, we should soon want bread.”
- Thomas Jefferson

The warm interiors and deep halls of the Capitol hummed with renewed vigor as winter’s snow and ice retreated from spring’s advance.  We entertained a myriad of discussions on the issues that face our state and our people.  This week, several proposals to facilitate our struggling economy were considered in the Chamber.  The policy debates that have occurred in years past have partially shaped our present economy, and your Republican-led legislature understands that what we do today will impact you and your families for years to come.  President Kennedy once famously said that a rising tide lifts all boats.  He understood, as do we, that we all benefit from a strong economy.  Government should remove barriers and encourage growth rather than forcefully take more fruits from the labors of the people.

In this week’s Capitol Report, I discuss several of the proposals that have been nadvanced to aid economic development.  I also highlight two proposals aimed at reducing the power of the bureaucrats, lobbyists, and outside special interest money in Missouri’s elections and on her elected officials.

Missouri has a long, proud history of farming and ranching that today employs thousands of our citizens, literally puts food on the table every day, and is one of the largest drivers of Missouri’s growing economy.  In this week’s video log, I discuss a Republican proposal that seeks to protect this industry from the attacks on it that we have witnessed across the country.  Click here to hear more.
