Wildwood Celebrates its Birthday!!

The City of Wildwood is having a birthday party and you are invited!  We all have an opportunity to join in the celebration of the City's 18th birthday.  (http://www.cityofwildwood.com/egov/docs/1376516270_841156.pdf)

This years Founders Day celebration doesn't happen without citizens who volunteer their time and talents putting together the days activities.  Sor, first, let me thank all those that have worked so hard to bring this event and celebration together this year.  It’s truly a remarkable group of citizens and they deserve all the credit for the day’s activities!

I’ve been asked why we have a Founder’s Day celebration.  It is really very simple, it’s a recognition of a spirit of that has become synonymous with the City of Wildwood.  It’s that same spirit which caused residents to come together and jointly develop their own blueprint for a city and ultimately manage their own destiny.  Residents who didn’t want to have the status quo that was being stamped into the landscape and by a belief those who were most affected by local government decisions should have a greater say in that government.  It is those residents that created the City of Wildwood.  It’s that spirit which has us celebrating that spirit and recognize that it is alive and with us today.

It is that same spirit that we continue see today in our daily activities across the city. Whether it is a member of City staff answering a question or solving a problem perhaps you see or hear that spirit in their response.  You see it embodied in the residents that have made a conscious decision that this is where they want to live, play and raise their family.

It’s the reason we have a Founder’s Day.

One thing that is obvious about a Wildwood resident no matter the background or circumstance; they love living in Wildwood.  There are not many places that offer such a diverse suburban and rural atmosphere in the region.  The size of the City alone makes it unique in the region and in the state of Missouri.  So much so that it is one thing I hear not only from those new to area but those that come to Wildwood see a movie, eat dinner, walk or run on the trails or just enjoy open spaces is that they had no idea that all this existed here and that it could be so beautiful.

Finally, I want to once again thank everyone for coming out to the celebration and be sure to say hello when you’re here.
