Events Beginning with an "F"

With the urging of Frank Johnson, our Patch Editor, I am providing a post for the community to read and if moved, provide comment.  Much of what will be posted will reflect what also is shared directly with Wildwood residents in our weekly eNewsletter.  On occassion the topics will differ if the spirit moves me.  So let's start with this and see how it goes.

I want to talk everyone about two “F” words.  Now before you begin drafting a nasty email in response let me take a moment to explain what both words or rather phrases that I am talking about.

The first “F” relates to a completely new event that the City is a lead sponsor of along with B&B Theater.  It’s a Film Racing event! (Get it? the “F” word...) Film racing involves its participants creating short films that incorporate a pre-selected theme, prop, and word. The participants are then given 24 hours to put together a short film, typically less than five minutes for review and judging.  Creativity is key and because there is such a short time allotted for writing, filming and editing the entire event is called Film Racing.  When held in other locations Film Racing events create excitement and bring in large crowds at the showing of the finalists. The “race” kicks off when participants, film reviewers, and moviegoers will be in Town Center, beginning on Friday, September 20 and 21, 2013, with the top ten (10) films being shown on October 13, 2013 at the B&B Theater.  Registration will start very soon so watch the eNewsletter for details of this one of a kind event.

The second “F” word is the return of the annual Founder’s Day celebration August 24th to Town Center.  I’ve been told that the parade will have more bands and more participants than last year to kick things off.  Special guests and honorees will be veterans of World War II who fought in the Battle of the Bulge. These veterans served the United States during what became the costliest battle in terms of casualties for the United States at that time.  Having these veterans in the parade and at the celebration will be a big treat and you should be sure to thank them for their service.

Founder’s Day will expand in other ways as well with additional food, music and activities showcasing the City of Wildwood.  The car show will be back as well and bigger than ever.  So much so the group organizing this year’s event is concerned with having enough space for the entrants.  Be sure to mark your calendars to be there for the parade that will start at the Schnucks Parking lot and the festivities that follow in Town Center Plaza from 10 am to 5 pm on the 24th.  I’ll be there and I hope to see you there as well.
