Spring Clean Your Medicine Cabinet

It's time to spring clean your bathroom medicine cabinet to make getting ready in the morning faster and more efficient.

Spring is a good time to purge and organize your medicine cabinet. If you are like most people, you have way too much stuff in there, and it is starting to get a little crowded. Think of your medicine cabinet as prime real estate in your bathroom. It is the closest storage to the sink, and therefore the most precious place to store your MOST USED items!

Take a few minutes to pull out any items you only use once in awhile. Those things should be stored in a less accessible area. Now get rid of the things you used to use, but no longer like. Those go in the garbage.

Remove the rest of the items and categorize (face cleaning, deodorant, dental, etc). Now give your medicine cabinet a good wipe down. When returning your most used items, don't forget that the shelves are adjustable. If something doesn't fit, adjust the shelf! If you need to maximize space, consider magnetic or suction cup holders for smaller items and attach them to the medicine cabinet door.

Lastly, don't forget to label so you know where to put everything back. Yes, I'm serious. Try it and you'll get that "ooh, ahh feeling" every morning as you get ready for your day!

If you'd like more help on getting your bathroom organized, consider taking our Bathroom & Linen Closet Clean Out teleclass. You will receive a 10-page handout, including photos and links and a 1 hour audio recording to listen to at any time that is convenient for you:  (636) 686-0048 or (623) 202-9199.

While spring cleaning, consider dropping off your expired or no longer used prescription drugs to the Creve Coeur police station on April 28th from 10 - 12.

Thanks, Susan, for providing this timely article! Also wanted to mention from 10a-2p on Sat., April 28 the city of St. Charles will join some 3,000 state and local law enforcement agencies to host a local Drug Take Back Program. The event is sponsored by the St. Charles City Council and the Senior Citizens Advisory Commission, and will be open to any city resident or business owner interested in properly disposing prescription drugs or over-the-counter medications with an expiration date of a year old or more (pills and/or liquids -- drugs do not need to be contained in the original packaging). It's as easy as stopping by the St. Charles Criminal Justice Center – 1781 Zumbehl Road. Here in St. Charles your readers have two recycling opportunities annually...April and October. For more information, go to www.stcharlescitymo.gov, or visit the city's Police Department on YouTube at Discover St. Charles. -- Carol Felzien, Director of Communication
