Swim Record Broken Again by Lafayette Team

Setting a new school record on Friday wasn't exciting enough -- a Lafayette High School boys' varsity team had to break their own new record in a 24-hour span on Saturday.

Lafayette High School boys' 400 Yard Freestyle Relay team set a new school record Friday at the 2011 Missouri State High School Activities Association (MSHSAA) Swimming and Diving Championship held at the St. Peters Rec-Plex, but they turned around on Saturday and beat that new record. The win and new record earned them first place in the relay event.

Overall, this year's championship went to Rockhurst, whose team ended with 269.5 points. The placed second with an impressive total of 233.5 points.

The Lafayette Boys 400 Yard Freestyle Relay team consisted of junior Jon Glaser, sophomore Patrick Vega, senior Lucas Bruder and senior Jeffrey Morgan. Their winning time on Saturday was 3:11.17; Friday's time was 3:11.85. All are Wildwood residents.

Other Saturday results included a Lafayette third place finish in the Boys 200 Yard Medley Relay from the team of Vega, Bruder, Morgan and junior Connor Parsons, who also is a Wildwood resident. Their final time was 1:38.09.

Vega also earned a second place finish in the Boys 200 Yard Freestyle with a time of 1.64.

Bruder pulled a fifth place with a time of 21.51 in the Boys 50 Yard Freestyle.

Morgan placed sixth in the Boys 100 Yard Butterfly and seventh in Boys 100 Yard Freestyle. Senior Josh Daminato from Chesterfield placed 16th in the Boys 100 Yard Freestyle.

Senior Anthony Levy of Wildwood was 33rd in Boys 1 Meter Diving.

Glaser was third in the Boys 500 Yard Freestyle. Vega came in sixth in the same event, while senior Jacob Alspaw from Chesterfield was 15th.

The Lafayette of Bruder, Parsons, Daminato and Glaser placed sixth with a time of 1:29.25 in the Boys 200 Yard Freestyle Relay.

Bruder earned third in the Boys 100 Yard Breaststroke.
