Retired Eureka High Coach Named Girls' Soccer Coach of the Year

Bill Goggin announced his retirement to his team after beating St. Teresa's 2-1 to secure the state title in the Class 3 championship last season.

With thanks to Jay Scherder, marketing and media information specialist for the Rockwood School District, we bring you the story of Bill Goggin, who has been named Missouri state girls soccer coach of the year on the heels of his retirement following a state championship season in 2013.

As Scherder writes on Patch, "the Missouri State High School Activities Association and the National Federation of State High School Associations recognizes one coach in each state in each sport with its top honor - the Coach of the Year Award."

Goggin got the nod this year.

According to the district's news release, Goggin led the Eureka Wildcats to their first Missouri Class 3 Soccer State Championship Title in 2013 when they beat St. Teresa's 2-1 to secure the title.

"After our championship game win," Goggin said in a statement, "I told all the players and coaches that it was my last game coaching for Eureka High School. I was retiring from coaching. We all had a very emotional few minutes and then started to celebrate."
