Eureka Girls Soccer Win First State Championship

The victory caps a remarkable season for the Wildcats, who beat St. Teresa's 2-1 to secure the title.

Eureka High School is now home to the 2013 Class 3 state champions in girls soccer.

The Wildcats went back-and-forth with St. Teresa's Saturday at Blue Springs South High School before emerging victorious 2-1 on two goals from Allie Gentry.

It marks the first time the team has ever won a state championship, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, and makes Eureka the first St. Louis County public school to win the title since Lafayette in 1997.

It caps a remarkable, memorable season for the team and a high note for the team's nine seniors. Eureka's final record for the year: 22-1-1.

The seniors won't be the only ones going out on a high note. Coach Bill Goggins will be retiring after two decades coaching the girls team, according to West Newsmagazine. He also coached the boys for 17 years.

Congratulations, Wildcats!
